PC operator: work features, specifics and requirements

A fairly common position in modern trading firms, which is offered to young or novice professionals in the field of finance, accounting or data processing - is a PC operator. What is the essence and specificity of this work and how realistic are the prospects for further career growth after this position?

Most often, the work of a PC operator implies the presence of certain knowledge in the field of computer programs designed for processing and storing data. The most common of these is the 1C program, designed to store and process information about the movement of goods in trade enterprises and firms producing goods.

The duties of a specialist who occupies the position of a PC operator include the creation of a counterparty base, with which the firm cooperates, the introduction of primary consignment notes into the database, as well as the detailed registration of all goods movements between sellers (suppliers) and buyers (retail or wholesale).

Since this kind of work requires from the specialist dealing with it, first of all, diligence and attentiveness, and secondly - the speed of work and accuracy, often the managers of the enterprise prefer to view this post as some intermediate link in the career of a young specialist. Therefore, if a novice worker has shown his good qualities for several years while performing all the duties that a PC operator has, he will have very real chances of moving, for example, to the position of assistant accountant or economist.

In general, the career movement from this position can go in two directions - accounting and trading. If a young employee has an education in the field of accounting, it is advisable to find a similar job even at the time of obtaining an education. By submitting a CV for a position to a PC operator, even without experience, but with a minimum amount of knowledge gained during the education, you can safely expect to receive a similar position in the trading company. And in the future, the beginning specialist will only have to prove himself to be an excellent, attentive and executive employee and by the time of receiving the diploma one can safely apply for a higher position.

The work of a PC operator can be an ideal choice for those employees who do not dream about career growth, but who are satisfied with stable and uncomplicated work in the office. In this case, the employee receives a stable wage (which is usually slightly higher than the salaries of trade workers in the same industry) and a fairly simple job that does not require regular study of new data. In the presence of a properly organized database in which the fixation of all commodity movements was carried out correctly, the operator's work will be limited only to the introduction of new information.

In some trade organizations, the work of the PC operator is combined with the functions of accepting the goods with subsequent replenishment of the database with new receipts. In this case, an aspiring young employee has a chance to gain experience in the trade direction and his further career can be built already in this area. But it is worth remembering that in the case of such a specific work, the PC operator becomes a materially responsible person.

In general, such a position is often combined with the duties of related specialties - commodity expert, accountant, administrator or senior seller-cashier. Therefore, when choosing the vacancy for which the resume will be submitted, it is worth to learn more about the duties of the PC operator in this particular firm in order to make the right decision.
