International organizations: list and main characteristics

An international organization is understood as the unification of the member states of this commonwealth, which have concluded a treaty that corresponds to all norms of international law, with the aim of economic, political, cultural, military and other types of cooperation between its members.

Main features

A mandatory attribute of this phenomenon in the life of society is the presence of:

  • Bodies coordinating educational projects and activities;

  • Rights and obligations, within the framework of which, in the course of its activities, both the association as a whole and the individual states comprising it must remain;

  • Separate for each member of the provisions in the field of his competence and authority in accordance with the status;

  • Autonomous will.

The features that such commonwealths have

Very often the question arises as to which characteristics international organizations should have. List of the main features of such commonwealths:

  1. Participation in the unification of three or more states.

  2. Compliance with the provisions on the creation of an alliance to international law.

  3. Respect for the sovereignty of each member and non-interference in its internal affairs.

  4. The principle of an international treaty is the basis of the union.

  5. Purposeful cooperation in specific areas.

  6. A clear structure with special bodies, each of which performs certain functions.

Classification

International organizations are of two main types: intergovernmental and non-governmental. They differ among themselves in that the former are based on the unification of states or authorized bodies, and the latter (also called public ones) on an alliance of actors from different countries that do not have the goal of political cooperation.

In addition, international organizations, the list of which will be listed below, may also be:

  1. Universal (participants from all corners of the planet are involved) and regional (only for certain countries).

  2. Common (spheres of cooperation are extensive) and special, dedicated to only one aspect of the relationship (health, education, labor issues, etc.).

  3. Associations in the international organizations of the world, the list of members of which is quite a pie on their economic grounds:

    A) developed countries;

    B) developing countries ;

    C) mixed unions.

So, as you can see, there is a sufficiently developed system of classification of such institutions, which is due to their prevalence and great influence on global political, economic and cultural processes.

International organizations of the world. List of most influential institutions

To date, there is a huge number of such associations that are active in the whole planet. These are like global organizations with a large number of participants like the UN, and less numerous: the Union for the Mediterranean, the South American Community of Nations and others. All of them have completely different areas of activity, ranging from culture and ending with the law enforcement industry, but the most popular are political and international economic organizations. The list and their tasks, as a rule, are numerous. Further, we give the names and characteristics of the most influential institutions.

The UN and its affiliates

One of the most developed and known among all the commonwealth is the United Nations. It was founded back in 1945 to settle post-war issues, which were then on the agenda. Spheres of its activities are: the preservation of peace; Humanitarian assistance; Advocacy of human rights; Peacekeeping operations in hot spots. As of mid-2015, the members of this organization are 193 states from different regions of the planet.

Due to the fact that the needs of the world community grew over time and were not confined to purely humanitarian issues both immediately after the creation of the UN and during the second half of the 20th century, other more specialized international organizations appeared as its constituent parts. Their list is not limited to all known UNESCO, IAEA and IMF. There are also such units as the World Meteorological Organization, the Postal Union and many others. In total there are 14 of them.

International non-governmental organizations: list, areas of activity, relevance

Among these, the most powerful in terms of scope and activity is, for example, the non-profit charitable organization Wikimedia Foundation, or the International Rescue Committee, which deals with refugee problems. In general, such unions are counted more than 100, and the scope of their activities are extremely diverse. Science, education, counteracting racial or gender discrimination, health care, individual industries and much more - all this is done by specialized international non-governmental organizations. A list of the five best of them also contains communities such as Partners in Health, Oxfam and BRAC.

Participation of our country in the life of the world community

The Russian Federation consists of about twenty alliances of different types (UN, CIS, BRICS, CSTO, etc.). In the foreign policy of the country cooperation and accession to various international organizations are priority. The list in Russia of those institutions with which the state would like to work is constantly growing. In three communities, she is an observer (IOM, OAS and OIC), conducts an active dialogue with them and participates in the discussion of important issues. Particularly promising is the entry into international economic organizations. Their list is great (OECD, WTO, UNCTAD, etc.).
