How to remove "Reserved by system" (disk) in Windows 7

If one day after buying computer hardware or reinstalling the operating system, you went to My Computer and saw there an incomprehensible hard disk with a size of 100 or 350 megabytes, do not be frightened or surprised. The main thing is, do not touch anything on it, and everything will be all right. If he hinders you and "calloused" the eyes, it is better to hide it far away. Let's figure out how to remove "Reserved by the system".

What it is?

First we need to understand what we are dealing with. "Reserved by the system" - what is it? You may encounter such a problem exclusively in operating systems, starting with Windows 7. In this case, the system reserves 100 megabytes on the hard disk for placing boot files and data for encryption on it. How many times did users delete system files, so the computer stopped rebooting? In modern operating systems, their creators decided to reinsure and hide such important data on a hidden system disk.

In Windows 8, the "Reserved by the system" section takes a bit more - 350 megabytes. This is due to the fact that it also contains some files to restore the operating system.

Origin

Where does this section come from? As far as advanced users know, despite the fact that the installation of Windows 7 is automatic, some actions we still need to manage. Including creating partitions on the hard disk.

Imagine that you bought a new laptop with the installed operating system Windows 8. You are not a fan of this version and decide to reinstall the older "seven". You insert the installation disc, and the first thing that catches your eye when you get to the partition manager is three named areas, one of which is ugly and not indicated at all. What to do?

We omit the description of conversion of partition formats from GPT to MBR and other preparations for reinstallation. But here's what you should know. If you delete all partitions of the hard disk and put it on an absolutely empty OS disk, it will automatically create a boot partition for itself, which by default will be hidden and the next time you reinstall it you can find it again.

"Invisible"

So, the installation of Windows 7 was successful, but you found a new hard disk on your computer. Why did it happen? In most cases, the section "Reserved by the system" appears due to the "curved hands" of the programmer in pirated assemblies of the operating system. Fortunately, in the fact that you are faced with a similar problem, there is nothing terrible. You have several options to choose from:

  1. Let it be as it is. Just do not touch this section, and nothing wrong with your computer will happen.
  2. If you have a child who, by ignorance, can climb in there and screw something up, you can hide "Reserved by the system".
  3. There is a way to completely delete this partition by transferring files to the system disk. Doing this is highly discouraged, since the degree of security of your PC will be greatly reduced.

In other words, "Reserved by the system" - what is it? This is the main engine of your personal computer, which activates all other basic programs. To deprive him of his defense is an extremely ill-conceived and risky step.

Deleting or ...

If you are interested in how to delete "Reserved by the system", then think, is this really necessary for you? This process will not free you extra space, but simply transfers data from one disk to another. You will have to change many settings of the computer and its registry. Moreover, you will need additional software and the so-called LiveCD. After all, the operating system will "defend". It will not allow you to easily delete important data for it. Worst of all, in case of failure, your computer may simply refuse to boot or issue a warning that the operating system is not found in principle.

But still...

It's time to move on to the question of how to remove "Reserved by the system". We have already found out that deleting an existing boot partition will not lead to anything good. Therefore, if you still want to get rid of it, you have a chance to do it at the stage of installing the operating system. Before you begin to follow the next instruction, worry about the safety of your data. If you have a hard disk divided into several parts, then all data must first be copied to a removable media, otherwise they will disappear forever.

  1. Format the hard drive and delete all partitions.
  2. When installing the operating system, press Shift + F10. This command will open a command line for you.
  3. First, type diskpart and confirm.
  4. Then enter: select disk 0.
  5. The final command is: create partition primary.
  6. Close the command prompt and continue installing the system on this hard drive.

Section deleted

What have we achieved? The entire first hard drive is given to a single partition. Therefore, the system will not have the opportunity and free space to create a backup hard disk. What do we get?

Benefits:

  • You will not see the "Reserved by system" section.

Disadvantages:

  • The level of OS security is reduced.
  • You only have one partition on your hard drive, and as a result, this means that if you have big problems with the OS and reinstall it, you may well lose your data.
  • Inconvenience. Probably, most users have long been accustomed to the fact that they have several partitions on the HDD. You share your data - on one disc of the game and the program, on the other movies, pictures. The third working papers.

As you can see, there are far more disadvantages than advantages. Is it worth removing one section of such victims? However, they can be avoided if you use a special partition manager utility, for example, the Partition Wizard. It will allow you to "cut off" part of the hard disk's memory without losing data and damage to the operating system and create a new partition from it.

If you do not want to spend time and effort on reinstalling the operating system, then you just need to know how to remove "Reserved by the system", or rather hide it.
