Heat accumulator for the heating system of your house

Companies engaged in the development of engineering systems, in recent years, have focused on the development of alternative technological solutions. The concepts and directions that do not envisage the use of natural resources come to the forefront. At least, experts tend to focus on minimizing their consumption. A tangible benefit in this segment is demonstrated by the heat accumulator for the heating system, which is included in the existing engineering complex as an additional optimization component.

General information about heat accumulators

There are many modifications and varieties of thermal accumulators, also called buffer heaters. Different tasks are performed by such installations. As a rule, batteries are used to increase the efficiency of the main unit, for example, a solid fuel boiler. In the same cases, it is advisable to use similar systems to implement a monitoring function that is difficult to implement in the process of servicing traditional boiler houses in private houses. Most often used for this are storage tanks of heat, the capacity of which reaches 150 liters. In the industrial sphere, of course, installations with a capacity of about 500 liters can be used.

In the tank, the elements providing maintenance of the necessary temperature of the carrier are provided. The material itself, from which the tank is made, is necessarily interfaced with the layers of insulators. Active components are TENs and copper pipes. The configuration of their placement in the tanks may differ, as well as the control system of the operating parameters of the battery.

Operating principle

From the point of view of the drive, the main task is to ensure the possibility of maintaining the desired temperature regime, which is set by the user himself. As the boiler operates, the tank receives hot water and saves it until the function of the heating system stops. The conditions for maintaining the temperature balance are determined by the insulating materials of the container and the internal heating elements. The classic heat accumulator for a heating system, in essence, resembles the operation of a boiler and is also integrated into the circulation system. That is, on the one hand, the equipment is connected to a heat source, and on the other hand it ensures the operation of direct heaters, which can be radiators. In addition, the system is often used as a full-fledged source of hot water for domestic needs in the regime of constant consumption.

Functions of heat accumulators

As already noted, aggregates of this type can perform different tasks, the requirements to which determine the criteria for choosing a particular system. The basic and main functions can be attributed to the accumulation of heat from the generator and its subsequent return. In other words, the same tank collects, stores and transfers energy to a direct heating element. In combination with a solid fuel boiler, the functions of the system include protection against overheating. Automated and electronic control relays are ineffective in solid fuel aggregates. Therefore, it is practicable to optimize the operation of the boiler with the help of a heat accumulator, which naturally collects excess energy and returns it at times of temperature downturns. Electric, gas and liquid generators are easier to control, but with the help of a battery they can be combined into a single complex and operated with minimal heat loss.

Where can I use a thermal battery?

The system of heat accumulation is advisable to use in cases where the existing heating unit does not allow sufficient control over its operation. For example, solid fuel boilers inevitably provide maintenance moments when their capacities are not loaded. To compensate for heat losses, it makes sense to use such a system. Also in the work of water and electric heating systems, such a decision justifies itself economically. A modern battery of heat with automatic control can be set to work at certain times when the most economical energy consumption tariff is in effect. So, for example, at night the system will conserve a certain amount of heat energy, which during the following day can be used for any needs.

Where it is undesirable to use heat accumulators?

The nature of the operation of buffer batteries is designed to ensure uniform heat transfer and smoothing of jumps at temperature differences. But this principle of action is not always useful. For heating systems, in which, on the contrary, it is required to accelerate or lower the temperature regime, such an addition will be superfluous. In such situations, an increase in the coolant potential due to auxiliary buffer capacities will prevent rapid cooling and heating. In addition, it is worth noting that the house heat accumulators for the most part make it impossible to precisely adjust the temperature. It would seem that such a solution can be optimal for heating systems that work at short intervals - it is enough to heat the tank in advance and then use the ready energy at the appointed time. However, in itself, the content of the optimal state of the coolant requires the expenditure of a certain energy. Therefore, for example, a boiler house used for irregular and short-term heating of the dryer can well do without a battery. Another thing, if we are talking about a whole group of boilers, which can be combined into one system at the expense of a buffer.

Battery Specifications

Among the main characteristics can be noted the dimensions of the unit, its capacity, maximum temperature and pressure index. For private houses, manufacturers offer small installations, the diameter of which can be 500-700 mm, and the height - about 1500 mm. It is also important to take into account the mass, because in some cases, specialists have to use concrete screeds to impart a stability design. The average heat accumulator weighs about 70 kg, although the exact value is directly related to the capacity and quality of the tank insulation. Performance is reduced to temperature and pressure. The first value is about 100 ° C, and the pressure level can reach 3 bar.

Battery connection

Having a knowledge in electrical engineering, the landlord can not simply connect the ready buffer to the heating system himself, but also completely assemble the structure. To begin with, you need to order a container in the form of a cylinder, which will become a working buffer. Then, through the entire tank, it is necessary to conduct a return pipeline along the niche of a future heat accumulator. Start the connection with the boiler return connection and the tank. From one component to the second one, provision should be made for the location on which the circulation pump will be installed. With its help, the hot heat carrier will move from the barrel to the cutoff valve and the expansion tank.

Mount the battery of heat with your hands in such a way that the most rational distribution of the liquid across all rooms is assumed. To assess the performance of the assembled system, it is possible to provide for the presence of thermometers, explosive valves and pressure sensors in it. Such equipment will allow to estimate, how much rationally the battery will work through the connected circuits.

Water systems

The classical heat accumulator assumes the use of water as an energy carrier. Another thing is that you can use this resource in different ways. For example, it is used to supply heating floors - the liquid passes through the circulation pipes in a special coating. Also, water can be used to ensure the work of the shower and other needs, including technological, hygienic and sanitary properties. It is worth noting that the interaction of boilers with water is quite common and because of its low cost. A water heat accumulator is cheaper compared to electric heaters. On the other hand, they have their drawbacks. As a rule, they are reduced to nuances in the organization of circulation networks. The more the volume of consumed resource, the more expensive its organization. The installation costs are one-off, but the operation will be cheaper.

Solar systems

In water systems, the design provides a comb heat exchanger for a geothermal pump. But a solar collector can also be used. In essence, the center of the power plant is obtained, which optimizes the function of the heating station by reserving energy from different sources. Although the battery of solar heat is less common, it can be used in typical heating systems. Solar collectors also retain energy potential, which is further spent on domestic needs. But it is important to take into account that a hot coolant in the form of water itself requires less energy than a solar battery. The optimal option for using such batteries is the direct integration of the panels into the places where the heating should be carried out without additional transformations.

How to choose the best battery of heat?

It is necessary to proceed from several parameters. To begin with, the functional of the system and its performance are determined. The tank must fully cover the volumes that are planned to be spent during the operation of the heating system. You should not save on management systems. Modern relays with automatic regulators not only make programming of engineering systems convenient, but also provide protective properties. A properly equipped heat accumulator has a protection against idling and provides ample opportunities for indicating temperature conditions.

Reviews about the battery

It is impossible to say that in each house thermal batteries certainly provide economy of finance. The reduction of heating costs with the help of such buffers is said by users who serve large private houses and cottages. To maintain optimal thermal conditions in 2-3 rooms, tanks with a reserve fluid are not practical. But practically all users emphasize the convenience that heat accumulators provide. Comments of owners of traditional boilers, for example, note that the presence of such a tank eliminates the need for constant monitoring of the furnace. The unit automatically redistributes thermal energy in accordance with the specified program, facilitating the function of the combustion chambers.

Conclusion

There are a lot of alternative solutions on the market that can replace both boilers and buffer storage. However, the complex, which includes a combination of a water boiler and a solid fuel boiler, is the most cost-effective and easy to use. Provided that the distribution of the circuits is rational, heating the heat accumulator will provide the required temperature level. Therefore, the most important activities will be related to the design of the system, which will determine the efficiency of the boiler function. In this case it is not necessary to be limited to simple schemes of thermal distribution. Heat regulators and radiators in modern modifications organically complement battery systems, interacting with them in different operating modes.
