Hamedorei elegant (Chamaedorea Elegans), or indoor palm: home care and photo

In florists and designers, the elegant hamadorea (Chamaedorea elegans, or indoor palm tree) is the favorite indoor plant. A small decorative tree is a kind of tropical palm tree - an overseas guest from a distant Mexico. Openwork feathery leaves on a long stalk create a very refined silhouette. Therefore, the plant is widely used not only in ordinary apartments, but also to decorate the exquisite interiors of shopping centers, hotels and restaurants.

Growth conditions

Hamedorei elegant refers to plants that combine in themselves such properties as decorativeness and endurance. To our conditions, it is easily adapted and therefore absolutely unpretentious. Not only to blossom, being indoors, but even able to bear fruit can be elegant. Care at home is very simple, and observing simple rules, you can grow a luxurious tropical palm tree in your apartment. It is worth considering that the plant comes from quite different latitudes, so there are some requirements for creating artificial conditions that should not be ignored. Their non-compliance can lead to the loss of a beautiful decorative appearance or even death.

Requirements for lighting and temperature

Despite the fact that the plant comes from the tropics, it is undesirable for it to be in direct sunlight. In nature, the cha-madorea grows gracefully under the crowns of taller trees, where the light is scattered, or in the shade, and therefore, at home, you will need to create suitable lighting. It will be most comfortable for the plant to be at a window that looks at the western or eastern side. In the summer, so that the sun's rays do not burn leaves, the palm should be shaded. This spectacular plant feels great in the back of the room, far from the windows. Free choice of location significantly simplifies the owners of such a beauty, like a hamadorea elegant, care at home. The photo below shows how very good it will look near the sofas, armchairs, where you can sit down and enjoy its beauty. In order for the leaves to grow evenly on all sides, it is recommended that the tub with the plant be turned periodically.

But this tropical palm tree, of course, loves it. The effects of high temperatures are easy to tolerate, but if it is too hot, it will lead to wilting of the leaves. In summer the temperature is maintained within 18-27 ° C, and in winter it is necessary to ensure that it does not drop below 16 ° C.

Watering

Humidity of air and soil - this is a particularly important time for the full development of such a plant, as the elegant hamadorea. Care at home requires mandatory spraying of its leaves in the summer up to 2 times a day. And if the air in the room is dry enough, then this procedure will have to be arranged in the winter. It is done necessarily with the use of warm clean water, which must first be given to settle.

The high humidity of the air of this kind of palm is beneficial only - its leaves become larger and acquire an effective color. Therefore it is good, if near the plant to put an open vessel with water, install a room fountain or buy an air humidifier.

Watering the hamedora in spring and summer is required regularly, avoiding the drying out of the earth. In winter, this is done no more than 2 times a week. It is important to avoid waterlogging the soil. This can adversely affect the development of the root system. Watering the palm is best only when the top layer of the soil dries up.

Top dressing

In order for the plant to be lush, healthy and bright, it needs to be provided with nutrients. This is done, as a rule, during the growing season, which lasts from April to August. Hamedoraea exquisite - the plant is exotic, therefore, it is not recommended to use any home preparation as a top dressing, it is better to use special mineral fertilizers. In the summer, this is done once in a decade, and in the winter - every month. Fertilizer is diluted in water and added during watering.

Reproduction

It is carried out in different ways - the seeds that a room palm produces annually, by root shoots or cuttings and sprouts. You can choose any of the methods. Seeds give seedlings only after 6 months. When the first leaf appears, the plant is transplanted. This method is used very rarely, because at home the seeds are growing rather poorly.

More often use reproduction by a handle. Gently cutting it from the trunk, placed in a vessel with water, which adds fertilizer. After 2 weeks on the root, roots appear, then the process is transplanted into a separate pot, which is covered with a glass jar from above to create a thermal effect.

Features of soil

Earth mixture for this room palm is required especial. It should have a large amount of humus. You can use the prepared special soil mix for indoor palms or prepare the soil yourself, mixing in equal proportions turfy ground, humus, peat and perlite. Pre-humus is sterilized. To do this, it simply needs to be placed in a dense bag in a microwave oven. In the future, in order not to disturb the plant, only the outer layer of the soil is replaced, it is removed very carefully, without damaging the roots.

Plant transplantation

This procedure is not tolerated by the hamedora, so transplant is done only if necessary, usually as the plant grows. It is best to immediately land him in a large tub, so that later you do not have to transplant. In doing so, the over-climbing method should be used to avoid damage to the root system.

The plant purchased in the store, after 2 weeks of adaptation to the home conditions is necessarily transplanted. Then, the transplant is carried out as you grow - twice a year, until the adult hammedorea is graceful. Photo of the formed room palm tree can be seen in the article.

Diseases and pests

Hamedorae elegant can be exposed to various diseases. But more often than not observance of conditions on care of a plant can lead to a defeat by fungal diseases and insects-pests. Due to the lack of moisture on the plant, there is a high probability of a spider mite. And if the soil is moistened with excess, then a leaf spot or pink rot may appear on the palm. In this case, the plant should be treated with a soap solution, rinsed with clean water under a shower, and if necessary, using special preparations.

If the leaves turn yellow or dark dry spots appear on them, this indicates insufficient watering and humidity of the air or the use of not standing water. The darkening of the tips of the leaves is due to too low or, conversely, too high a temperature in the room, where the hamadorea is elegant. A photo of damaged plants shows an unsightly species of flora. In this case, urgent measures must be taken.

From the spider mites are usually disposed of with insecticides, treating all parts of the plant and repeating the procedure again after 7 days.

To avoid such problems, you need to carefully study all the rules of care for such an unusual plant, like Chamaedorea elegans. And then this tropical miracle will fully demonstrate all its beauty and attractiveness.
