Glycerin suppositories: pharmacological dynamics

Glycerol in the human body is oxidized to carbon dioxide (CO2) and water. Carbon dioxide stretches the rectum, while its receptors are irritated, and this in turn activates the bowel motility and stimulates defecation. Glycerol reduces the irritating effect of many pharmacological agents. With intrarectal administration, suppositories facilitate passage, as well as liberation of stool. The drug is available in two forms: suppositories for adults and children. Candles glycerin prescribed for constipation as a pharmacological agent with laxative effect. It should be noted that these candles can be used to clean the stomach. This is especially true in cases where oral medications are not possible.

There are contraindications for the use of the drug. It can not be used for exacerbation of hemorrhoids, cracks in the anus, tumors in the rectum, hypersensitivity (allergies) to the components that are part of the structure of this drug. As for the side effects when prescribing suppositories with glycerin, most of the reviews indicate that they were not observed. With prolonged use of laxatives, patients may experience some discomfort in the rectum (irritation), sometimes inflammatory reactions occur. There is drug diarrhea, rash, shock, lupus-like syndrome, dysfunction of the small intestine (enteropathy and malabsorption syndrome), enterocolitis, as well as melanosis of the large intestine, chronic hepatitis, anal itching, etc. In case of an overdose of the drug, headaches, arrhythmia, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea may occur.

Candles glycerin (Nizhpharm) is prescribed as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of chronic constipation. For this purpose, in addition to glycerin, gas-forming suppositories are also used. They are used mainly for constipation, which are caused by the suppression of the urge to act as a defecation ("Calciolax", "Ferrolaks", candles with rhubarb, candles with lithium carbonate).

As a lipid base in candles, hydrogenated cottonseed oil or cocoa butter is used. After intrectectal use of candles with lithium carbonate, the act of defecation is caused on average after 10 minutes, candles with rhubarb - after 45 minutes, "Calciolax" and "Ferrolaks" - after 30 minutes. It should be noted that the gas-forming candles do not cause side effects, they contribute to the restoration of the lost reflex to defecation. Glycerin suppositories irritate the mucous membrane of the rectum, while reflex stimulation of defecation occurs.

Candles glycerin (children's): instruction manual

Children, especially newborns, often have problems with stools. You can help your child by using glycerin suppositories. In the pharmacy, this medicine is dispensed without a prescription. If the child begins to strain, raise the legs, he can enter the drug into the rectum. Further, the buttocks of the baby should be squeezed and held for a while (a couple of minutes) in order for the glycerol to dissolve. Since these candles provide lubrication of the rectum, the feces are excreted painlessly. This is very important, especially in cases when the child is afraid of the act of defecation.
