Battery for the truck: what are and how are they different?

On today's roads there is a huge variety of trucks. Their destination is also diverse: from the transportation of letters to the delivery of multi-ton cargoes. MAN, KamAZ, "Gazelle" and many other trucks and trucks are your helpers, a means of earning.

Auto on the go in all weathers

Need I say that in any weather, in any weather conditions, your car should be in working order? Replacing the oil, replacing rubber, filters, antifreeze or antifreeze in time does not give you full guarantee that the truck will start. Especially in the cold. The battery is what is needed for the car to function properly.

This is his heart, his battery. Many drivers, buying a battery for their car, do not think that it just does not fit. That it will not be able to "pull" the generator, that it from time to time is worth serving.

Why do I need to take a battery for a truck and how does it differ from a simple battery?

Let's start with the fact that the truck is much more than a car, fuel and energy, he also uses much more. Hence, the battery should also be special, namely a battery for a truck that meets all the requirements.

Battery capacity is the most important factor when choosing a battery. The nominal capacity indicates the number of ampere hours (Ah). If you do not know how many ampere hours you need a battery for a truck, then you should look in the car's instruction manual. There should be specified GOST (for domestic cars) or DIN (for American or other foreign trucks).

At KamAZ or MAN, in the main, batteries for trucks are put up for 190 ampere hours or 140 ampere hours. As a rule, in trucks, two batteries of the same capacity are put. Coming to a specialized store, even drivers with a great experience start to get lost, not knowing how the numbers and letters on the battery are deciphered. What is polarity?

Battery decoding

The main transcript that you need to know is 6ST-190. This means that the battery has 6 batteries connected in series, or, as they are called, cans. Each bank has a voltage of 2 volts, respectively, the battery has a voltage of 12 volts. 190 is the nominal capacity of the battery. If you put the battery with a smaller amperage, then the generator simply will not get power. If you put a battery with a large nominal number, then the generator will simply not "pull" it. With this operation, the battery will quickly fail. After all, giving all his energy to the car, he will not receive the necessary charge in return. If in warm time it will not be noticeable that the battery is discharged (after all, up to 0 degrees Celsius it can work at the lowest density of electrolyte - 1.20), then in minus weather the electrolyte can simply thicken and harden, inflating the device and breaking the plates inside it .

Also, when buying a battery for your truck, you should pay attention to the polarity - the location of the terminals. This is not at all difficult: by unfolding the device to yourself with the narrow side on which the terminals are located, see if you see +/- - this is the reverse polarity, and if - / +, then the polarity is straight. On batteries for cars and light trucks (with a nominal capacity of up to 110 Ah) look the other way. Also there are differences in battery height: batteries for American trucks are two centimeters lower than for domestic brothers.

Date of manufacture

What to choose a battery for a truck (190 amperes)? It should be borne in mind that his "age" (by the date of manufacture) should not exceed one year. If the battery lasts for a long time without recharging, its plates begin to break down, sulfatation begins. The manufacturing date is spelled out from the outside or from the back, for example: 1516 - which means "fifteenth week of the sixteenth year." Or, on foreign-made batteries, the release date looks like this: *** 1501 * - the first three digits are the lot number, the fourth and fifth digits are the year of manufacture, the sixth and seventh are the month of the year and the last digit is the shift number.

Batteries were previously discharged dry-charged, that is, they did not have electrolyte flooded, now these devices are supplied only for tractors that have three 2 volt banks (generally six volts). In such a battery, you need to fill the electrolyte with a density of 1.27 and put it on for several hours, so that the plates are impregnated. Then add the electrolyte to the required level and connect it to the charger. With car batteries for 12 volts such manipulation is not necessary. They come from the factory completely flooded, charged and ready to work.

The difference between calcium batteries and lead

The most popular calcium batteries (with a minimum content of lead), they are less located to hydrolysis, that is, dehydration. During operation water boils away, which leads to increased density of the electrolyte and drying of the plates, and this, in turn, leads to the shedding of active substances - the internal destruction of the plates. Calcium does not allow water to boil out quickly. But such batteries are difficult to recover after a deep discharge, which can happen when driving for short distances, sub-zero temperatures and just oversight. The density of the electrolyte should be checked at least once a year.

Lead-calcium (hybrid) batteries are adapted to recovery after the discharge is greater, but hydrolysis is also susceptible to more.

Why do they steal batteries?

Accumulators of truck lorries weigh from fifty kilograms. That's why they are very popular among thieves and are prone to theft more than devices for cars. In the centers of reception of non-ferrous scrap metal for the used batteries for trucks 190 give good money. Few trucks are equipped with alarms and stand in garages, especially domestic cars. Therefore, it is worth taking care of the safety of your expensive property.

Protect against thieves

How to protect the battery from theft on the truck? In specialized stores you can purchase a battery box for a truck. He is able to protect the battery from the infringement of unscrupulous citizens. These boxes are made of high-strength materials by the size of the battery. All devices have standard sizes, so finding such a safe for truck batteries (190 amperes) should not be difficult. Such boxes are an isolated box with an upper hinged cover with strong locks. At the bottom of the box are fasteners, which firmly fixed to the car.

Where can I install the battery box?

To install a box and make fastenings in the truck itself it is possible in car-care centers. Recently, this operation has become popular, and it can be done by any mechanic. Surely everyone will agree that it is worth spending money for safety once, rather than spending a lot of money on the purchase of two stolen batteries.

Of course, you can leave the truck in a guarded parking lot and give away about five hundred rubles a day. But if you count how much money will be released even in a year, the amount will be huge.

Where to buy a battery in St. Petersburg?

You can buy St. Petersburg truck batteries almost at every step. You can also buy batteries without leaving home. On the websites of shops and online stores there is a huge selection of batteries of Russian and imported production, produced in CIS countries. Buying through the online store, you can save a lot of money, choose a battery without haste. Here you will also be consulted by specialists, will recommend something new or order the missing usual goods. Here the delivery to the house, garage or base is made out. The battery will be brought to the checked for charge and density, with a written warranty card, if you do not like something, you can simply refuse it or you will be brought another.

Does the battery warranty extend?

The warranty period for cargo batteries is on average one year. The term is set by the manufacturer, not the store. The warranty card should be read carefully before signing it. Check for the presence of seals, the signature of the seller or the responsible person. If something happened with the battery, for example, it stopped turning on the car, or froze, or just stopped you arranging for some reason, then you also need to carefully read the warranty terms so as not to get into an embarrassing situation. Check the car with a multimeter for leakage current. It is also necessary to consistently check the density of the electrolyte in the battery with a hydrometer. If you do not understand this, then contact the stores where the battery is sold. For a small amount of experts will check everything themselves. And many shops provide free maintenance of the battery for the entire warranty period.

Such a seemingly common thing is a battery, but it requires a lot of attention. The main thing is to observe the rules of operation, to correctly pick up on your car. And your battery will last a long time, without causing trouble.
