Acrylic Adhesive: Advantages, Varieties and Uses of Use

Acrylic adhesive is a popular means by which you can safely connect two or more objects. It has certain features of use, as well as advantages and disadvantages, which you will learn about from the article.

general characteristics

So, acrylic glue is a water-soluble product. Its peculiarity is that during manufacturing, no solvent is added to the raw material. That is, the basis of the glue is considered to be natural.

It should be noted that such an adhesive has a liquid form. Most often it is colorless, although there are varieties of substance that have a yellowish tinge. Such means are used both in everyday life and in industry.

Product advantages and disadvantages

So, acrylic adhesive has certain advantages. Among them are:

- Reliability of fixation of elements.

- Ecological safety of the composition, which makes it possible to glue even children's toys.

- Affordable cost.

- A huge number of varieties, among which you will find exactly the option that you need.

- Good resistance to environmental influences.

- Load distribution over the entire surface of the elements.

- Ability to use any material for connection.

- Some types of compounds are used for gluing products with an uneven surface.

As for the shortcomings, they also exist. Acrylic adhesive has a rather unpleasant smell, which eventually disappears. In addition, the glued part is already quite difficult to move from the place, if it is necessary to correct it. And one more flaw is the small thickness of the glue seam.

Types of compounds

Now you need to figure out what kinds of acrylic glue there is. First of all, it is divided into one-component and two-component. In the first case, the composition is completely ready for use. In the second, it needs to be diluted with one more component - the catalyst.

In addition, acrylic based glue can be classified differently. For example:

1. Cyanoacrylic . It is considered the safest, since it does not contain solvents in its composition. At the same time, he very quickly grasps. Most often, these adhesives are single-component. The composition can be used to join small plastic, metal, leather or rubber parts.

2. Modified . It is often two-component. That is, before you apply glue to the surface of the workpiece, it needs to be covered with an activator. Sometimes both components can be pre-mixed.

3. Ultraviolet curing. Such an adhesive is used to join glass or other transparent products. It hardens under the influence of ultraviolet waves of a certain length. However, the fixation of objects quickly occurs only in the place affected by the rays.

4. Latex based adhesive. It can be used in any conditions. At the same time, it will serve regularly for a long time and is safe for health.

5. Acrylic dispersion adhesive on a water basis. Basically it is two-component. Such a composition has a high enough adhesion, is environmentally safe. This glue hardens only after evaporation of the water that is contained in the product.

6. For tiles. Moreover, this facing material can be attached both to the floor and to other areas. Such glue fixes the tiles well, is easily applied and adheres to almost any substrate.

Features of the choice of composition

First of all, you need to decide what exactly you are going to connect. The choice of glue depends largely on the material to be fixed. Naturally, you should buy raw materials only at authorized points of sale and certified stores that can give a guarantee on their products.

If you are going to use the compound in everyday life, it is better to choose an acrylic universal glue. It can be used to connect any materials. And there are compounds that freeze for a few seconds, so you do not have to hold fasten the parts in your hands for a long time. Naturally, while working with such substances, you must follow certain rules. However, in general, the adhesive provided is safe for humans.
