Volcano Tyatya - the fire-breathing mountain of the island of Kunashir

Volcano Tyatya - the third most beautiful volcano in the world after Vesuvius and Fujiyama, is located in the inaccessible area of the island of Kunashir of the Kuril chain. In the Ainu language of the indigenous inhabitants of the island the name of the mountain Chacha-Napuri is translated as "Father Mountain". The Japanese, whose language does not have the letter "h", replaced the syllable by "cha" and changed the sound to "aunt." So, two languages, united, involuntarily, gave a good name to the giant - Tyatya.

Volcano Tyatya - a two-level classic giant, was formed by andesite and basalt lavas. It resembles a two-story cake. On the main cone 1485 meters high there is a second, central, height of 337 meters. The diameter of the base of the mountain reaches 18 kilometers.

Volcano Tyatya, whose photo is presented in the article, is an unofficial symbol of the island of Kunashir and is often used in illustrations depicting the Kuril Islands and the Kuril reserve, in which the volcano is located. In 2013, he entered the TOP-10 characters of the Far Eastern District, taking first place, and is one of the most beautiful places in Russia.

Ancient giant (modern volcanologists claim that the age of the mountain is twelve thousand years) rises on the north-eastern territory of the island. The surrounding lands are deserted, and the reason is the volcano Tyatya. The eruption that began in 1973 was so powerful that the ashes settled on the territory of the island of Shikotan, located 80 kilometers away, and the large village of Tyatin was erased from the face of the earth. Flowing from the slope of the lava was the cause of the fire that arose in the reserve. The continuing weak activity of the fire-breathing mountain is the main reason why the lands around the volcano remain unoccupied.

The volcano Tyatya is also dangerous for aviation. Unpredictable emissions of a poisonous cloud, not only from the main, but also from the side crater, may have already caused the collapse of several helicopters during the last few years.

The territory of the Kuril reserve and its volcano Tyatya always attracted tourists. From all sides it is surrounded by water - the reserve is washed by the waves of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Okhotsk. The territory was overgrown with broad-leaved and coniferous forest and bamboo shoots. Of the large animals, the guests of these lands are brown bears. According to tourists and indigenous residents who have visited the reserve, the streams literally swarm with the fish of the family of salmonids, which can be caught by the hands during spawning. The forests around the volcano and berries are rich. Krasnik, Kostyanik, prince, blueberry, cranberries, cloudberries will please fans of "quiet" hunting. By the way, due to the wealth of salmon rivers flowing there, and forests - berries, bears in Kunashir are always full and happy, so there were no attacks on the person.

If you take into account that at the moment the volcano is weakly active, and the largest eruptions occur once in a thousand years, Tyatya and the Kuril reserve will gladden naturalists, tourists and lovers of extreme sports for at least a century, without exposing them to the danger of catastrophic emissions.
