Violet horn: agricultural technology and application in garden design

Today in many flower beds you can find such a flower as a horned violet. Cultivation of this plant is quite simple, in the care it is unpretentious, but it looks just fine. What else can you dream of a gardener!

Violet horned perennial is a herbaceous plant of the family of violet. The botanical name is Viola cornuta. This is a representative of a fairly large family, most species of which are of no interest to the gardener. Another thing is a horned violet, a small plant that grows to only 25 cm in height, but has an unusually attractive appearance. The flower has beautiful large-toothed leaves on the ascending stem. The buds of the horny violets are single, growing on long legs. The size of the flower is 3-4.5 cm. A characteristic feature of the horned violet, which distinguishes it from all other representatives of this family, is an interesting form of bud. Flowers have a curved spur that resembles a horn. As a matter of fact, the horny addition came from here. Still it should be noted that the flower is sometimes called viola (by the transcription of the Latin name).

The color of a bud at a violet can be the most different: dark blue, dark-violet, velvety-blue, red, brownish, yellow - the shade will depend on the chosen grade. The best varieties of violet horn are Blue Perfection and Yellow Perfection. These two varieties have large beautiful flowers with a fragrant, pleasant scent.

How to grow a horned violet

This flower is propagated in two ways - by dividing or using seeds. With the method of dividing the bush are familiar to all gardeners, germination of seeds also does not cause special problems. In greenhouse conditions they germinate two weeks after planting, it should be noted that seed germination is rather low - only 40%. In the open ground, the plant, as a rule, is transplanted already in July or even in August - but it will blossom to frost. With the onset of cold weather, the ground part dies, and the horned violet hibernates in the form of short shoots. However, this plant does not require shelter from frost, although some gardeners still hedge and shelter it for the winter.

The place for planting can be any, these flowers are not demanding to the ground. But it is preferable that it is sufficiently open, since in the shaded areas the plant will suffer from garden pests - slugs.

If you want the violet to bloom for a long time, water it regularly. A useful procedure will be pruning - removing old flowers and unnecessary shoots will lead to the formation of a thick bush and abundant flowering.

Application of horned violets in garden design

These delicate flowers look good in the foreground of flower beds, created from different types of plants, on slides and in curbs. Care for violets is required minimum, while, with the right agrotechnics, it will bloom all season. Violets will look great in container plantings around the house or on the balcony. Since there are different varieties of horned violets with different shades of buds, you can create interesting floral compositions.

So fantasize and turn your garden into something truly wonderful!
