Large-flowered clematis Asao: description, care, cultivation and reviews

It is much easier to obtain blossom from the purchased clematis of Asao than to keep it in the winter and make it bloom again. The plant is not so much capricious in nursing as it requires some (minimal) knowledge about its characteristics. The popular name in Russia of all clematis is "clematis".

Clematis "Asao": description

A variety of Japanese selection. Named after the name of the Japanese city, where it was received in 1971.

Clematis ("Asao") Asao is distributed through sale through horticultural nurseries. It was brought to England (from where it began spreading across Europe) in 1980.

Large (up to twenty centimeters in diameter) flowers appear in May - early June in the middle zone of the Russian Federation on the wintering shoots of last year. Do not wilt up to two weeks. The second portion of flowers appears on the shoots of the current year from the middle of summer. If the last year's shoots with faded buds were cut out in time, this bloom will be very lush, the diameter of the flower will be slightly smaller (up to 12-15 centimeters), but the quantity will exceed the June one. The long-term nature of the second wave depends on the age of the bush, the quality of pruning, feeding and the correctness of planting (from the formation of the root kidneys).

Flowers on the plant are both simple and semi-double, only in the first wave of flowering, uncovered. Color - intensely pink with light streaks in the middle of the petal. The middle of the flower is yellow. Faded buds during the season are preserved and pleases the eye with a silvery color.

The plant is strongly leafy, a liana up to three meters high. A support is required. The diameter of the bush is up to 80-100 centimeters. The root system is of medium size, the growth is moderate. This feature makes it possible to grow clematis Asao in containers.

Comments of flower growers on the cultivation of plants in the central zone of the Russian Federation indicate its fairly high winter hardiness with well-formed shelter and proper pruning for the winter.

Shadow-tolerant, prefers planting sites with weak shading in the afternoon, sensitive to the regularity of watering (with irregular irrigation loses peduncles), but does not tolerate high groundwater.

Ideal for beautiful landscape silhouettes.

Clematis Asao: planting and care

It is desirable to buy a plant in the spring. Otherwise, the plant will be difficult to survive, and it is almost impossible to deal with the shoots (last year and this year).

Due to the fact that clematis Asao, like all other representatives of this species, forms the root buds, it is necessary to place the seedling correctly in the soil. The root pit is 60x60 cm in size and depth of 30-40 cm is ideal for planting. It should be half filled with deciduous humus, adding a little turfy ground (sandy loam or loamy, the pH should not be alkaline), make sure that there are no roots of perennial weeds, especially such as a swirl, sow, and burdock. Place the seedling so that its root neck is five to six centimeters below the ground level. This is to ensure that, firstly, the clematis does not dry out in the summer, rooted above the soil, and secondly, that the root kidneys do not freeze in winter. To fill the remaining voids with a mixture of turf and humus, pour water at ambient temperature (not from a well and not from a well), with settling add soil. Top up the wall (it can be coniferous litter, wood chips). If very sunny weather is expected with a high daily temperature, it is necessary to cover for the week Clematis Asao with a sponbond or other non-tangle. Periodically you need to water as the soil dries.

Properly planted clematis in the first summer after planting can blossom. Not abundant and not very large flowers, but will bloom.

Cropping and forming a bush

Breeders attribute Clematis Asao to the trimming group B (or the second) according to the generally accepted classification. It includes clematis with an early first flowering on the shoots of last year and the second in the middle of summer on newly grown shoots.

For abundant flowering, the first year's seedling should not be given a high bush, so it is necessary to monitor the shoots and prevent them from growing more than 60-70 cm long. The pruning should be sharp, disinfected in a weak alcohol solution and carefully dried with a garden tool. A young seedling is susceptible to various viral diseases, so do not need to provoke the plant with a contaminated tool. By winter, the seedling must form strong shoots, thin and small is best cut off before shelter for the winter: they are not needed for flowering next year and will weaken the plant.

Seedling of the second and subsequent years requires a different approach to pruning. After exiting winter hibernation, the plant should be checked for broken shoots, the broken parts should be cut off. After flowering of the first wave, it is necessary to cut off last year's shoots, leaving only newly grown ones. It is on them that the second wave blossoms.

After the end of flowering before wintering, it is necessary to prune the shoots, leaving them a length of one to one and a half meters. Small and broken should also be cut.

Preparation for wintering in the middle zone of the Russian Federation

Since clematis Asao is derived in Japan, it is necessary to treat it as a fairly thermophilic plant.

Preparation for winter is as follows:

  • It is necessary to remove the cut off shoots from the supports, gently fold it and fold it to the ground;

  • Fall asleep with loose peat, two buckets are needed on the bush;

  • On top to cover with lapnikom, in its absence it is possible to use the cut off garden plants (a raspberry, chrysanthemums), large sawdust;

To fall asleep and cover the clematis is necessary when the temperature staunchly leaves in a small minus (up to five degrees).

In snow-less winters, plants need snow podsypka.

Works with clematis in spring

It is necessary to release the plant from the shelter very carefully. The first warm days do not give cause for complete removal of shelter. Night frosts lie in wait for gentle shoots, and in these cases, death awaits them. The clematis itself will not suffer, but the first wave of flowering will not be in the early spring.

Only when there are no night frosts below minus five, it is possible to release the plant from the "dungeon". The overwintered shoots begin to release the buds, after a week or two they will start to blossom, and new shoots will come out of the earth. By the end of May buds will appear on old shoots, and in the beginning of June their full opening will begin.

Feeding

The plant changes its krone every year, so for it there is a fairly serious fodder diet. Four times a season - this is the plan for feeding.

The first time - in the spring after the growth of new shoots. It can be a solution of urea (1 g per 1 liter of water) with the addition of humus. Before feeding, you need to shed the soil thoroughly, as the roots of the plant can go deep into the ground.

Second time - after the first wave of flowering. Organic - a weekly herb infusion, diluted one to ten (a bucket of water infusion). To shed it is necessary thoroughly.

The third time - before the summer flowering. Can be a solution of chicken manure, or special complex fertilizers for perennials.

Last time - for a month and a half before pruning. A weak solution of Mullein with humus will be suitable.

Reproduction

Two methods are acceptable for reproduction, judging by the reviews of amateur flower growers: cuttings and cuttings.

The essence of the cuttings is as follows. A newly formed process is selected (the stem should not be light green) with good leaves. Cut off with a sharp knife, you can use a scalpel. It is cut into several parts, each of which must have a pair of leaves. One of the leaves is cut (so that the water evaporates less), the stem drops into the solution of "Kornevin" (or analog) and is planted in a sandy-humus mixture. Within a month, the roots will form. To save the microclimate you need to close the container with a packet, periodically scanning and removing excess moisture from it. A year after cuttings the seedling should be kept in a container.

In order to obtain the Clematis Asaos, it is necessary to bend the well-formed shoot to the ground, secure it in a pre-prepared small container (not to damage the main root system) or at a distance of 40 cm from the main bush. Sprinkle with earth. During the season, the root system will form. To check whether the roots grow, it is necessary constantly. The next year, a new plant can be planted.

Planting in containers

Clematis Asao has not too much root system, so it can be grown in containers.

As a container, it is better to take a ceramic container (15-20 liters). It should be disinfected, if used earlier. At the bottom is laid ten-centimeter layer of drainage, then a mixture of humus and turf ground. Clematis will grow well if you follow the moistening of the earth and monthly feed. Due to the fact that the clematis must be wintered under cover, the plant must either be transplanted into the ground, or dig a container in the greenhouse, then cover, as described above ..
