Ultrasound of the knee joint and other joints

Ultrasound of joints is considered one of the most informative diagnostic methods. In comparison with other studies, including computer diagnostics, the ultrasound examination method is absolutely safe and is accessible to a wide mass of the population.

The ultrasound of the knee joint is assigned to the patient if one of the following indications is present:

- arthritis;

- ligament rupture;

- deforming arthrosis;

- damage to tendons, menisci;

- hemorrhages in the joints.

Before carrying out such a study, additional training is not needed.

Children older than one year of the US knee joint is prescribed when:

- osteochondropathy (Osgut-Schlatter disease, Keninga and others);

- Pain syndrome;

- deformities in the joint;

- the presence of palpable (palpable) formations;

- puffiness, hyperemia of local character;

- a local change in the structure and color of the skin in the joint region.

This method of research allows orthopedists and traumatologists to diagnose congenital joint dysplasia, certain degenerative and inflammatory pathologies of the musculoskeletal system. Ultrasound of the knee joint contributes to an accurate assessment of volumetric formations and traumatic injuries. Ultrasound examination also makes it possible to determine the volume of intraarticular fluid.

The ultrasound of the knee joint (the second largest in humans) allows to assess the condition of the periarticular soft tissues (muscles, bags), connective tissue components, fatty tissue, vascular and neural bundles. Such capabilities make ultrasonic examination indispensable in the initial diagnosis of traumatic injuries and other disorders of intraarticular integrity.

In addition to early diagnosis, the above examination is used to assess changes against the background of therapy, and also as a control in the implementation of certain interventions.

Ultrasound of the hip joint is prescribed for pain or trauma, the presence of an inflammatory process, a developmental disorder, and also when exercising control over the therapeutic effect. Of great importance is this method of diagnosis when identifying children's joint pathologies. Thus, in newborns, an ultrasound examination can reveal congenital dysplasia of the hip joint. The development of this pathology can be caused by an incorrect position of the fetus inside the maternal womb, unprofessional obstetric activities or prolonged labor.

Orthopedic specialists recommend that ultrasound be performed for all newborns (as required). It should be noted that other studies are generally recommended no more than every three months.

The ultrasound of the shoulder joint (the most mobile of all) is appointed to confirm the diagnosis. With the help of this method of examination, a reliable determination of the state of the ligamentous and muscular apparatus is carried out, degenerative and inflammatory processes in the muscles and tendons are revealed.

Ultrasound of any joint has an undeniable advantage in comparison with other diagnostic methods. After all, ultrasound examination does not have ionizing radiation.

Due to this research, specialists have the opportunity to visualize those anatomical structures inside the joint that do not lend themselves to palpation (manual palpation), and also to monitor patients dynamically.

According to some experts, ultrasound can be of an individual nature with direct communication between the patient and the doctor during the diagnosis.
