Tomato Snowdrop. Such different tomatoes

Homeland of tomatoes is South America. This plant in Europe brought the Spanish conquistadors back in the 16th century. "Tomatl" in the language of the Incas means "big berry". And already the French for coloring and the shape of fruits reminiscent of the heart, called them the apple of love, that in French - Pomme d'amour. Hence the name of the culture - tomato. In the beginning, this plant was used as a garden ornament, planting it for joy and surprise around the house, and its fruits were considered inedible and even poisonous. The neighbors came to see the curiosity, whose surprise there was no limit.

His suitability for eating determined a happy event, to which we are all obliged. This happened in the midst of the struggle for freedom and independence of the English colonies of North America in 1776. The rebels were led by future US President George Washington. And they tried to poison him with a sauce made from the fruits of this amazing plant, serving a dish flavored with it. His taste pleased Washington, let alone that he remained alive. But the prejudice to tomatoes still remained for some time. While in Europe and the New World tomato was still inedible (in the XVIII century), in Russia, in the southern regions, it began to grow as a garden and food culture. In the middle of the XIX century, the area of tomato distribution already covered the middle regions, and by the end of the century - the northern zone. Over time, thanks to the breeders, new, not only ripening, but also cold-resistant varieties were created, one of which is the Snowdrop tomatoes, which were quickly spread. Breeders managed to achieve incredible results, and it is not surprising that now this culture is cultivated almost everywhere.

Cold-resistant variety of tomatoes Snowdrop was originally adapted to growing in the open ground of the north-western regions of the country. From the chain of its development and growth removed such a link as the cultivation of seedlings on the windowsills in the houses. Better than other varieties, the Snowdrop tomatoes grow on poor soils and even reduce yields if nitrogen fertilizers are applied to the soil.

Tomato Snowdrop is usually sown in early April in a greenhouse that is not heated (or at the end of April in a greenhouse where well-fertilized soil). The grown seedlings are planted in the open ground in mid-June. The stage of full ripening of fruits occurs in mid-August. Tomato Snowdrop is a semi-shtammy compact shrub, when grown with the use of hilling it forms 3 stems, each of which in turn usually has 3 brushes. In the second half of June, there is a period of mass flowering, in early July - the setting of fruits. On the first branch they ripen to 150 grams, and on the second - up to 90-11 grams. In the brush, usually 5 fruits. Total tomato Snowdrop from one plant yields up to 1.6 kilograms.

And, of course, the tomato of the Snowdrop is no different from its counterparts in the versatility of their healing properties. Tomatoes improve metabolism and, thanks to serotonin, increase mood, being a good antidepressant. They have a rejuvenating and antitumor effect on the body, help with atherosclerosis, asthenia, intestinal disorders. A natural medicine and a powerful antioxidant - lycopene, which is part of their composition, helps reduce the risk of developing cardiac and vascular diseases. Better this vegetable is absorbed if the food with its content is used with vegetable oil.

Still its or his useful properties promote preservation of sight and prevention of changes in a retina of eyes that in the advanced age can become the reason of loss of sight. Contraindications exist for such diseases as cholelithiasis, gastritis and gastric ulcer, but they are relative, therefore it is not necessary to completely exclude this useful vegetable from your diet.
