Variety of cucumbers. Competitor. Ogurets Competitor: reviews, photos

Cucumber - one of the most popular crops, cultivated by individual gardeners and agricultural enterprises. This plant early ripens and yields good harvests. According to the chemical composition, fruits of 95-97% consist of water, and the rest are carotenes, vitamins and a number of micro- and macroelements.

Cucumber refers to the family of pumpkin, and is known in our country since the XVI century. His homeland is presumably located in the tropical and subtropical regions of China and India. At the foot of the Himalayas, you can meet wild cucumber species with small bitter and inedible fruits. We started cultivating about 5-6 millennia ago. Now the cucumber is spread all over the place. Several varieties and hybrids of the plant have been identified. One of the most popular varieties in Russia was the cucumber Competitor (photo).

History of occurrence

Cucumber The competitor (the variety description is given below) was withdrawn in 1980 at the experimental breeding station VIR in the Crimea. The competitor is intended for cultivation in a certain area - southern regions of Russia. But it is widely cultivated in the non-chernozem zone of agriculture.

Breeders brought out the "competitor" (cucumber) as early-ripening. The plant ripens fruit weighing more than 100 grams with good taste. From planting in the ground to the first harvest takes about one and a half months, while the variety is resistant to diseases.

Cucumber Competitor: description of landing in the ground

Depending on the climatic zone, the seeds can be planted in a closed and open ground. But to accelerate the growth and maturation of fruits in the middle band, it is recommended to use a temporary film shelter. At a temperature of 20 to 25 degrees and sufficient moisture, the first shoots appear 3-5 days after sowing. Not recommended overheating of seedlings. Temperatures above 35 degrees are disastrous for young shoots, they inhibit plant growth.

According to observation, gardeners better fructifies when planting on the trellis than on a normal bed. "Competitor" cucumber is well established on fertile, loose soils with a high content of humus. The plant is demanding for soil moisture and its temperature. A landing scheme within 40x40 centimeters is recommended.

Growth rate and structural features

"Competitor" (cucumber) is referred to as early ripening grades. Seeds are sown for seedlings in early May, landing in the ground occurs at the end of May or early June. The root system develops much more strongly during the growing season than the ground part. On the 10th day, the proportion of the height of the sprout to the root depth is 1: 3, at the age of 20 days this ratio looks like 1: 2. Only after 50 days, the ground part of the cucumber will be equal to the underground one, and then it will start to exceed it. Rough and creeping stalk quickly stretched in length. It ends with antennae, with which the plant can catch on the support. On the stem, heart-shaped leaves are formed, having five blades.

Cucumber Competitor: Variety description

Flowering occurs soon after the germination of the seed begins. Bodies of reproduction are dioecious: male (vapors) and female (with ovary). The variety is referred to as monoecious, that is, flowers of male and female types are placed on the same plant. Color of corolla bright yellow. Flowers open about 6 am in the northern latitudes, and in the southern - at 4-5 o'clock in the morning. Pollen is viable in the first hours after the opening of the corolla. Pollination is carried out by bees.
Approximately in 12 days all inflorescences fall and from the formed ovaries are formed zelenytsy. Under favorable conditions, the plant begins to bear fruit on the 45th day after emergence.

Care of the plant

Competitor - a cucumber unpretentious and resistant to disease. The plant is not prone to infection with powdery mildew, bacteriosis (bacterial spotting). Thanks to this, the maximum harvest is guaranteed.

The plant is strongly branched - the main branch can reach two meters in height. Therefore, it is necessary to install special poles in the ground or equip the suspended structures to ensure uniform growth. A young stem is sometimes tied to a vertical support.

The basic rules of care for a cucumber grade "competitor":

- Timely watering;
- regular weeding;
- top dressing with special additives;
Loosening of the soil.

Cucumbers poorly extract water from the ground and do not consume it economically. With a lack of moisture, plants can seriously lag behind in development - the ovaries fall off, the fruits form small ones. Therefore, it is important to provide a sufficient amount of liquid for full growth.

The resulting soil crust has to be destroyed by loosening. This procedure ensures that a sufficient amount of oxygen is supplied to the roots of the plant, which is very little in the soil.

In addition to oxygen, a cucumber needs carbon dioxide. The plant converts it through photosynthesis into organic matter. A number of specialists recommend using top dressing for this, in particular, ordinary manure is well suited.

Yield of variety

At the time of harvesting from a square meter of planting with proper care, you can get from 3.3 to 3.8 kilograms of cucumbers. The yields are affected by the duration of fruiting - it can reach 90 days. A sharp drop in temperature reduces the period of fruit formation and the yield of the variety.

Fetal characteristics

Cucumber Competitor description of the fetus have the following. This is a false berry (or tykvina). The inner part consists of several chambers filled with seeds. Fruits are oval-cylindrical, dark green in color, large in size, the surface is covered with large tubercles and contains soft black spines. The ripened cucumber in length can reach 14 centimeters. In this case, the mass of each reaches 130 grams. Convenient for harvesting, as long as the green grasses have a long fruit leg from 5 to 7 centimeters.

Gardeners appreciate the high palatability of the fruit of the cucumber grade "competitor" in both fresh and canned. There is no bitterness, the pulp is sweet and juicy. In general, a variety of cucumbers "competitor" reviews collected the most positive.

Disadvantages of a variety of cucumbers "competitor"

Despite the fact that the cucumber Competitor reviews (photo attached) has collected good, the brand has flaws. Fruits quickly turn yellow when they are left for a long time on the bed after ripening. At the same peel is covered with cracks, a specific cucumber smell disappears because of the process of seed formation that has begun. If the care does not use enough water to irrigate the plant, then there may be bitterness in the pulp. Specific unpleasant taste is felt in the area of the peduncle and is associated with the accumulation of glucoside cucurbitin in the skin. High air temperatures and bright sunlight intensify this defect.
However, observing the rules of plant care, you can achieve high yields of the plant. And the fruits grown on the bed are ideal for pickling and preservation.
