Temple of Melpomene

The drama theater on Perovskaya (Moscow) opened its doors in November 1987. But the idea of creating it, appeared long before that - in 1979. This dream was cherished by students Cyril Panchenko and Victor Nikitin. The first of them became the artistic director of the theater at Perovskaya, and the second - the leading actor.

The first performance was staged by A. Strindberg's play Freken Julie.

The nineties were hard for the theater. And as a way of surviving, and also to help other companies in this difficult period, the artistic director came up with the idea to hold the International-90 festival. Each theater in turn was the venue for its conduct, and also paid for the expenses.

In 1992, the theater at Perovskaya hosted the first in our country festival on body art.

In 1995, another festival came to replace International-90. Its name is "Slavic crown". This festival is held by the theater even now. It involves troupes from Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Serbia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and other countries. It need not be Slavs. The main thing is that the plays of the theaters participating in the festival should be staged according to the plays of Slavic playwrights.

Since 2001, the studio has created a studio called "Traven". In her repertoire there are performances of works by playwrights of Ukraine.

In 2013, at the initiative of the team, a festival was held for young talents. Schoolchildren from all over the capital, as well as the region, dream of becoming actors. The jury was attended by high-class professionals. Young talents got a chance to show themselves and get objective assessments.
