The national park "Smolenskoye Poozerie" - a place of pristine beauty

In 1992, the Smolensk Poozerie National Park was established in the Smolensk region. Its total area reaches 146,237 hectares. On a vast territory there are many lakes, rivers, broad-leaved and dark coniferous forests. The regulation on the national park "Smolensk Lake District" shows that this organization is obliged to preserve these virgin lands, flora, fauna and endangered species of the region.

Administration location

Since the foundation of the park administration was located in the village of Podosinki. But in 2002 the organization was registered at the new address: pos. Przhevalsky Str. Gurevich, 19. Full legal name: Federal State Budgetary Institution "National Park" Smolenskoe Poozerie ".

Information for guests

In the vicinity of the village the administration of the park organized several tourist routes. Also, festivals and other cultural events are regularly held here with a view to environmental education of schoolchildren and the public. Employees of the park continue to beautify the territory, which allows you to invite tourists to these places and at the same time preserve the local nature. For tourists, parking lots and observation platforms were organized, mainly near Lake Sapsho. In the property of the park there are regular youth and children's camps.

The territory is rich in archaeological sites. In total, there are 77. Such monuments include ancient Russian settlements, settlements, settlements, sites, remains from the Stone Age, burial grounds.

There are 93 historical monuments in the park. These are memorial places and architectural remains. There are several museums and two churches. Several ruins of temples and baths have been preserved.

The National Park has its own information center, which regularly hosts exhibitions with a historical bias.

Visiting the park, in your free time from excursions, you can ride horses, go fishing or go for a walk, admiring the picturesque and pristine nature. Also in the winter season there is an opportunity to learn how to ride a ski or snowmobile.

Large ponds

The national park "Smolenskoye Poozerie" received this name thanks to the many lakes and rivers that are on its territory. There are about 35 lakes here, but the largest of them are:

  • Sapsho (304 ha);
  • Dgo (234 ha);
  • Rile (178 hectares);
  • Baklanovsky (the deepest place of the lake is 33 meters).

The major rivers of the park include (the length is indicated within the district):

  • R. Yelsha (59 km);
  • R. Gobza (59 km);
  • R. The Polovye (36 km);
  • R. Caspli (27 km).

Also on the territory there are 63 peat bogs.

Climate of the park

The national park "Smolenskoye Poozerie" is characterized by a temperate continental climate. The transition of the seasons is clearly expressed here. Summer is hot, and in the winter there is a strong cooling. Sometimes cyclones come from the Atlantic, which cause rain in the summer and a drop in temperature, and in winter - snowfalls and a decline in frost.

Fauna of the park

In the hope of seeing animals in the wild, many travelers come to the national park "Smolenskoye Poozerie". Animals that live here are represented in a wide variety. Thus, there are 57 species of mammals, 10 amphibians and 5 reptiles. These forests are considered a bird kingdom. There are 205 species of birds.

To the background feathered species can be attributed green peresmešku, finch, a large tit, black head nut, ratchet, garden swine, gray flycatcher, forest skate, white-rabbits and many others.

To the waterbearing representatives are black tern, mallard, gray heron, gogol, snipe, big grebe, large bittern, coot and other species. During migrations of birds, one can notice species that usually inhabit the tundra and the northern taiga.

The national park "Smolenskoye Poozerie" in its halls has sheltered such mammals as ermine, caress, fox, bear, moose, wolf, lynx and wild boar.

Lakes and rivers are also rich in underwater inhabitants. Most often there are roach, ruff, sticking, chub, pike, bream, dace and rudd.

Some representatives of the fauna are listed in the local Red Book, and it is also discovered that 18 species of birds living in the park are registered in the Red Data Book of Russia. Among them - a black stork, a large spotted eagle, a black-throated loon, an osprey, a trout, a serpent, an average woodpecker and other birds.

On the territory there live a newt comb, dormouse hazel, flying squirrel, European mink, beaver river, brown ushan, corncrake, doppel, white-tailed eagle, wood grass and other species included in the International book of nature protection.

Vegetation of the park

As already noted, in order to preserve the old-growth forests, the national park Smolenskoye Poozerie was established. The photos presented in this article clearly show that spruce-deciduous forests predominate on the territory (spruce, oak, maple, alder, aspen and linden). Also in the park there are birch forests. 74% of the entire territory of the park is covered with forests.

Within the "Smolensk Poozerie" registered 880 species of vascular plants. In the Red Book of the country there are 10 plants that grow in this park.

In the protected area, such rare species have been recorded and protected: a water nut, a lake half-lake, a real slipper, a helmet, a burnt and male orchid, a bald patch of Baltic and Traunsteiner, a long-leafed pollen head, and a perennial vertex.

Taking into account such diversity of flora, the park makes a great contribution to the scientific sphere. Scientists working on the territory of Smolensk Poozerie cooperate with several universities of the country.
