The female image in the novel "The Hero of Our Time": an essay

The work of the great Russian writer and poet M. Yu. Lermontov left a tangible mark in the history of world literature. The study of images created by him in poems and novels enters the system of planned familiarization not only for schoolchildren, but also for students of many higher educational institutions. "The female image in the novel" The Hero of Our Time "- this is the theme of one of the compositions for high school students.

Lermontov is a poet or prose writer

The inner creative world of the writer is so multifaceted that one can not say exactly which genre was more typical for him. There are frankly lyrical works, there are romantic, there are heavy dramatic opuses associated with his participation in military operations in the Caucasus.

Here it is worth noting that Lermontov was still a poet more than a prose writer. After all, for his short but rather productive creative life, he wrote hundreds of poems and poems. But prose - quite a few, which, of course, makes it even more attractive to readers.

Women and Honor

It is interesting that Lermontov, despite the dramatic nature of his works, knew how to delicately subtly write in them gentle and timid, and sometimes bold and resolute young ladies. The female image in the novel "The Hero of Our Time", for example, is the character of not one, but several girls, and they are all very different.

According to the essays and memoirs of his contemporaries, the poet loved women, moreover, he was inspired by them to create his works. Awesome attitude towards women was emphasized first of all in matters of honor. One wrong word spoken to even an unfamiliar lady could cause a duel. Lermontov was very quick-tempered, but in the meantime he was quick-witted, which his friends often used to somehow reason with the poet during the next conflict. However, dueling did happen anyway. One of them ended with the death of the poet.

Woman - Muse

But women were not only the reason for the poet's quarrels with the world around him. They endowed him with creative forces to create new works. Therefore, all the female images described by Lermontov are very harmonious in nature. The female image in the novel "The Hero of Our Time" is not an accident, nor a whim of M. Yu. Lermontov. Indeed, by right, we can say that none of the problems of that (and the present time) can not do without the participation of the fair sex.

Savage Bela

If we talk about what is the female image in the novel "Hero of Our Time", then first of all it should be understood that this is a composite definition. The heroines of the novel were three girls - Bela, Princess Mary and Vera. The most curious thing is that the images are written very carefully and distinctly, taking into account the origin of girls, upbringing and even nationality.

Bela is a young native of the Caucasus. She impressed the main character Pechorin with his spontaneity and innocence. Some wildness of the girl's character fully corresponds to the customs of her homeland. Yes, and savagery it seems only to the enlightened residents of St. Petersburg. Bela is honest and straightforward.

Pechorin really enjoys the struggle for it. In his opinion, there is everything in Bel that is so lacking for experienced secular lionesses. However, as soon as Pechorin achieves love, he realizes that they are deceived in their aspirations. It turns out that spontaneity and unusualness are also boring. After receiving the desired, the main character concludes that the love of a savage is in principle no different from the love of women he knows. However, this approach is typical for Pechorin's personality. It is peculiar to him very quickly to be disappointed in everything and to seek new sensations. So, the first female image in the novel "The Hero of Our Time" - Bela - is the firmness, honesty, integrity of the girl's soul.

Princess Mary

The image of Princess Mary Ligovskaya looks quite different. Before acquaintance with the girl, Pechorin heard about her quite ironic statements of another character in the novel - Grushnitsky. Basically they boiled down to some disregard for the provincial society of Pyatigorsk. The small world of the county town is mocked by Pechorin. But he accepts the rules of playing the local high society in order to entertain another intrigue, this time with the princess.

Actually, the next female image in the novel "The Hero of Our Time" - Mary - is a young, well-bred, flirtatious and slightly flippant young lady. Among other things, the princess is sure that the society in which she is, the most that neither is higher and noble. And therefore it is worth sticking to the laws adopted in it.

This can not but cause the irony of Grushnitsky and Pechorin. They are both drawn into the intrigue of winning Mary's heart. However, for Pechorin this is another entertainment, which can not be said about Grushnitsky. In addition, for the main character visit Ligovskih - this is an occasion to see another heroine of the novel - Faith.

Vera

This, perhaps, is the main female image in the novel "The Hero of Our Time". Faith - a young lady, a relative of the princess for her husband, who also happens with the Ligovskys. Previously Pechorin had close relations with her.

It was Vera who managed to understand Pechorin, to accept him without reservations as he is. Pechorin can not forget the girl. Accidentally meeting her, he realizes that the feelings are still there. But, describing the female image in the novel "The Hero of Our Time" (an essay can not do without some narration of the content), one should not forget about the selfishness of the protagonist, which manifests itself in relation to Vera, who successfully married a rich man. If in the case of Bela and Mary Pechorin just having fun, then in his intrigue with Vera his ego is hurt. He can not accept the fact that his, as it seems to him, woman belongs to another.

Male egoism of Pechorin

What is he - the main female image in the novel "The Hero of Our Time"? A brief summary of the relationship between Vera and Pechorin can be conveyed in several sentences. The lady does not immediately understand the true aspirations of Pechorin and calmly explains to him as a close person that her marriage is a commercial transaction necessary to secure the future of her son.

Pechorin, on the other hand, uses the frankness of the Faith and aggravates the situation. He specifically provides signs of Mary's attention in the hope of causing jealousy in the lady of the heart. He succeeds. Faith in despair. She understands that old feelings are sweeping over her again. But she has a husband to whom she is devoted in her own way. Pechorin understands the situation and genuinely enjoys his power over the girl.

Moral purity of Faith

In the end, Vera decides to confess her husband to everything. She tells him about her former relations with Pechorin and about the rekindling feelings. Without thinking twice, the husband decides to leave. Pechorin rushes in pursuit, but his attempt is in vain. He cries for a sense of loss and evil selfishness.

"The female image in the novel" The Hero of Our Time "- the composition is complex. After all, you need to compare all three heroines, give them an assessment. The image of the Faith was written out by Lermontov most carefully. Here there is vice, and jealousy, and moral purity at the same time. For Pechorin - this, by his own definition, is an ideal woman. But for Vera, relations with Pechorin are a moral and emotional impasse. However, she has the courage to honestly talk about her husband and leave, leaving the main character to deal with the fruits of his intrigues and selfishness.
