The causes of thrush in women, how this disease is treated

Thrush is a disease caused by yeast fungi, which has become very active recently. The most common genitalia ("vulvovaginal candidiasis" - in women, "urogenital" - in men), but can occur in the form of inflammation of the mucous membrane of the mouth or intestines. This disease is easy to diagnose, the first time is quite simple to treat. But if it is done incorrectly, it can quickly recur.

The causes of thrush in women

Candida fungus, which causes the disease, can actually live on the skin and mucous in a small amount, it reproduces more actively with the increase in sugar in the blood, it is affected by the hormonal background of the woman and the purity of the sexual organs (and mouth) of the sexual partner. But in itself the disease does not appear. The most common causes of thrush in women:

  • The recent use of antibiotics, although it may occur against the background of taking these drugs;
  • Change in the balance of female hormones due to the use of contraceptives in tablets;
  • Decreased immunity due to pregnancy, severe illness, antitumor treatment, very severe stress, HIV infections;
  • Oral-genital contacts with fungal carriers;
  • Sex with a patient with urogenital candidiasis a man;
  • diabetes.

Wearing tight underwear, insufficient compliance with the rules of intimate hygiene, love of sweets, hypothermia can aggravate the course of thrush, but they are not its cause.

How is thrush manifested?

The main manifestations of thrush in women: the allocation of white (less often - greenish or cream) colors, they are plentiful, thick ("curdled"), with an unpleasant odor, intensify before menstruation and after sex.

There is also a strong itching or burning sensation in the genital area. Sometimes because of this it hurts to urinate (urine gets on the inflamed external genitalia), have sex. What is thrush? How to treat the disease? These and other questions will be answered by the gynecologist after examining and researching your smear. And all because:

  • The causes of thrush in women - not only Candida mushrooms, which are quite easy to kill (they have learned how to develop protective enzymes), there are other fungi of this genus, which are much more difficult to cope with;
  • Thrush can go "in pairs" with a bacterial or other vaginal disease;
  • You may have concomitant diseases or complications of thrush, which are taken into account when treating a doctor.

Than it is possible to cure a thrush?

Modern pharmaceuticals have come up with many drugs for topical use (in the form of candles, gels, tablets or ointments), and for general (in the form of solutions for infusions and tablets).

Proper treatment should be prescribed depending on the cause of the occurrence of thrush in women (that is, determining which subtype of the fungus it has caused and to what this microflora is sensitive to). To do this, you need not only to pass a normal smear, but also to sow the vaginal discharge on the nutrient medium with the determination of the medicines that will destroy the isolated microbe (this is called "bacteriological culture with the definition of sensitivity to antibiotics").

Usually treatment of thrush begins with the use of local remedies: Clotrimazole (Candid-gel), Miconazole, Terconazole, Nystatin. When pregnancy is applied "Pimafucin".

The drugs for systemic use for thrush include: "Fluconazole", "Nystatin", "Nizoral", "Itraconazole".
