The appearance of phytophthora on a tomato: ways to fight

All the residents are well aware of such a common disease as late blight. Especially often this infection affects tomatoes and potatoes. Spores of phytophthora can be carried in huge amounts by wind and rain. How to properly care for plants to avoid loss of crops?

Spores of phytophthora on a tomato appear most often if it is grown in close proximity to potatoes or several years in the same place. These two mistakes are often made by beginner farmers. It should be remembered that tomatoes on the same bed can be grown only at intervals of 4-5 years. It is impossible to cultivate them during this time and after other nightshade plants, as well as, of course, potatoes.

Another important rule that must be observed to prevent the appearance of phytophthora on a tomato is the mandatory digging of soil in beds after the end of the growing season and the destruction of the tops by burning. In addition, in the spring, it is necessary to properly prepare the seeds for sowing. They must necessarily be soaked in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate for half an hour. Sowing is carried out after they are dried to a loose state.

In order to avoid the appearance of phytophthora on a tomato, it is necessary to pay special attention to the age of the seedlings. It is best to transfer it to the soil approximately 60 days after germination. It will also be good to use early and mid-ripening varieties for cultivation. The fact is that late blight affects tomatoes in the second half of the summer. Therefore, early varieties have time to ripen faster than infection.

The fight against phytophthora is also in proper care throughout the growing season. First, you must not allow too much thickening of tomatoes. Secondly, we need to monitor the weeds. They deprive the plant of part of the nutrients, they often block them from the sun, and therefore create favorable conditions for the development of phytophthora. Particular attention should also be paid to the balanced feeding.

The appearance of phytophthora on a tomato can be caused by applying too much fertilizer containing nitrogen, for example, manure. Therefore, with top dressing of tomatoes, it is necessary to follow the rules of agricultural technology, provided in this case. If we talk about mullein, then it should not be in the soil more than 2 kg per square meter. This is only for poor soils. On the chernozem this indicator should be halved. This disease is also very rapidly begins to develop in wet weather.

What to do in the event that the phytofluor on tomatoes nevertheless appeared? First, the frequency of irrigation should be reduced. The soil in the beds should not dry out much, but there should be no stagnation of water either. Watering in sunny weather should be done once a week, but abundant (with a moistening to a depth of about 20 cm). In the damp - stop at all.

In addition, it is worth treating tomatoes specifically designed for this drug. This can be copper chloride or Bordeaux liquid. In some cases, a solution of table salt (1 item / 10l) helps. Sometimes iodine is also used (1 bottle / 10 liters). Another method is spraying with a solution of this garlic. It is best to use his broken hands for this purpose. In any case, before applying the treatment solution, you should carefully inspect the plants and cut off all the infected leaves and branches.
