There are so many varieties of cats in the world that we have not even heard of many of them. Today we want to present you an amazing American beauty - snow-shu. In translation, the name of the breed sounds like a "snow shoe". They are calm, playful and very friendly cats. The breed is bred by a complex crossing of American Shorthair and Siamese cats. It does not require special care, ideally suited to the content in a city apartment.

A bit of history

The breed of cats is still very young. Its name speaks for itself. The feet of these animals are like shod in white shoes. In the sixties of the twentieth century in the Philadelphia (USA) in the kennel of Siamese cats, the purebred representatives of the breed had kittens that differed from their parents with their white paws. The owner of the nursery was very happy with the kids. She tried to repeat the result, but all attempts were vain. Then Hinds-Dollerty (the hostess of the nursery) decided to pick up another breed to cross with the Siamese. Her choice fell on American shorthair cats. So a new breed was born - snow-shu. Soon, her representatives began to participate in exhibitions, and Dorothy began to prepare the standard of the breed and to come up with a name for their pets. However, new animals did not arouse public interest. Only in the year nineteen seventy-four, the newly created breed was officially recognized. And in 1982 it was recognized by TICA and ACFA.

Description of the breed

In our country, these are rare animals. Cats and cats are very attractive. They have a rounded head of medium size, the right proportions. Cheekbones high, nose not too wide. Small ears are rounded at the tips, at the base rather wide. The eyes resemble a walnut in shape, very large. The length of the eye is somewhat larger than its width. Usually blue, they beautifully contrast with the color of the animal.

Torso

In form it resembles a rectangle of medium size. Cats are slightly smaller than cats. But they should not be too fragile. The musculature of the animal is powerful. Back slightly arched.

Wool

It can be either very short or half-long. In a healthy animal, the wool tightly adheres to the body and shines well. There is a slight undercoat. The recognized colors are Sil Point and Blue Point. The weight of animals varies, but can reach five and a half kilograms.

Character

Snow-shu - curious and playful, calm and intelligent cat. Her character is much softer than that of the Siamese brothers. She is very benevolent, and this allows her to become a favorite of the whole family. These animals are very intelligent and smart. They adapt easily in unfamiliar surroundings. Very quickly, these cats adopt the rules of behavior in the house, especially if they were explained to them at a young age. Cats are easily trained, they can easily be taught some tricks. Snow-shu, like no other cat, need communication. Perhaps, this is the basic need of these beauties. If the animal often remains in the house for a long time, it can adversely affect his health. Therefore, the owners, who are not at home for a long time, it is better to choose another breed. If you really need this white-belted beauty, then you can have two animals. So it will be easier for them to endure separation from the owner.

Snow-shu treats everyone in the host family superbly. In addition, these charming creatures easily converge with other animals, especially if they are as active and fun. For these animals is characterized by a unique ability - not to cross the permitted line in games. They can stop in time and not turn the game into a farce. These cats are completely devoid of rancor and harm. They will not take revenge on a person or intentionally foul him. However, they will not tolerate a bad attitude towards them, they will try to escape as soon as possible.

These beauties also have a small drawback - they can steal. But this does not apply to food. It is unacceptable for them to get on the master's table and steal a piece of meat or sausage. But small things for games cause them great interest. But, as a rule, this happens only in cases when an animal does not have its own toys, and it has to play by what it finds on its own.

Care and maintenance

Snow-shu is very unpretentious in content. His rules differ slightly from those for other breeds, in particular for Siamese cats, but are simpler.

The wool of these animals is thick and fades not too intensively, so it is enough to comb the kitty once a week with a special brush. But given the incredible cleanliness of these animals, you can be sure that your pet herself will keep her wool in order. By the way, the snow-shu kittens are born completely white, and darken with age.

There is another characteristic feature of these cats - an incredible love of water. Do not be surprised if in a small amount of warm water collected by you into the bathroom your cat will climb on its own. In a word, there are no problems with bathing these animals. Otherwise, the content of these cats is standard. In the house there should be a tray with filler. It is not difficult to accustom the animal to it - we have already said that these are very clever creatures. In addition, your pet will need a scratch.

Food

Snow-shu are not easy to eat. However, it will be superfluous to consult a veterinarian or a breeder about how to make a proper and useful diet. This is especially important during moulting and during the breeding of kittens.

Health

From the nature of snow-shu are endowed with very strong health. Thanks to the hard work of breeders, animals are free from the defects inherent in their ancestors. It is necessary to carry out a regular vaccination. The owner needs to monitor the state of the eyes and ears of his pet. The representatives of this breed live, on average, 12 years.

"Snow shoe" - a cat that does not deliver problems to the owner. He just needs to love his beauty, play with her and do not push her away when she wants to take part in his household affairs.
