The aircraft MS-21: characteristics. Trunk plane MS-21: photo
Development and production of civil aviation aircraft in Russia lags far behind the world's leading aviation countries. A new impetus to the revival of the national aviation science can only be given by new projects, the acute need for which is already felt by the country and to the realization of which all scientific and production potential available for today in Russia can be attracted. One of the promising projects is the MS-21 aircraft, the characteristics of which surpass the known analogues.
Perspective state program
The Russian leadership has defined strategic priorities in the field of domestic civil aircraft construction. Among these is the MC-21 trunk airplane, which is designed to carry 150 to 210 passengers. It will be available in three versions: passengers with a capacity of 150, 181 and 212 seats.
In fact, MS-21 became a program for the revival of Russian aviation science. According to Oleg Demchenko, the general director of Irkut corporation, which is the main one in the project, the passenger plane MS-21 has received government support and is key for both OAK and Russia. Presumably, after the project is put into serial production, the short- and medium-haul liner will be named Yak-242.
Goals and objectives
The new Russian aircraft MS-21 is being developed to replace obsolete Russian Tu-154, Tu-204, foreign Boeing-737, A320 and other aircraft. To support the project, the government has allocated more than $ 3 billion. In the design will be used and foreign components, including the power plant, a number of units and assemblies. The beginning of its deliveries to the world market of trunk aircraft is planned for 2016-2017.
Today, in the world market in terms of civil aircraft construction, Russia's share is only within 1-3%. The government set the task in 2015 to increase this share to 5%, and by 2025 - to 10%. In solving such an ambitious task, which actually means the return of Russia to the global market of commercial aircraft, an important role is played by the MS-21 aircraft.
Characteristics
Three main modifications are being developed, which will differ mainly in the number of seats (and, correspondingly, in size) and power plants (for choice: Perm PD14 or American Pratt & Whitney family PW). The older model MC-21-400 will receive another power structure of the wing, which can lead to a noticeable rise in price.

Business plan
The MS-21 aircraft, the characteristics of which will correspond to the best analogues and even exceed them, by its dimension falls on that class of narrow-bodied trunk aircraft with one passage between the rows of seats, which occupies 56% of the world civil aviation market. The competition in this niche is very tough. The project, implemented by the Irkut Corporation and the OKB im. Yakovlev, with a broad involvement of domestic companies, it is planned to make highly competitive.
The optimism of the creators is based on the fact that the production of the model will be conducted using entirely new technologies and structural materials. Also, the stake is made on the design of the MS-21 - the photo of the aircraft attracts attention by the smoothness of the lines, the graceful form and modern decoration.
According to calculations, the sales volume of the MS-21 family of aircraft in all markets will exceed 700 units. Under favorable conditions, the total volume of production of this type of aircraft will exceed 1000 units, and the annual volume of output may amount to 90-100 cars. It is assumed that the serial model will come out one third cheaper than analogs, fuel efficiency will improve by 15%. And in the technical plan , the MS-21 aircraft will lead: the characteristics will surpass the foreign competitors of this class by 5-7%.
Marketing
The United Aircraft Corporation is actively working on marketing issues. A number of foreign partners have been invited to implement this ambitious project. At the last Paris International Aerospace Show in Le Bourget, the MC-21 family centered on the OAK stand. Photo of the aircraft was published by the world's leading publications as a model of a modern, comfortable and aesthetically attractive airliner. At the MAKS salon, the MS-21 program attracted the attention of specialists and leading companies planning to take part in its implementation.
Project advantages
- MS-21 is a new family of medium-haul aircraft for the Russian and world markets.
- A new level of efficiency and comfort in the class of aircraft with a single pass.
- Advanced technology from the field of aerodynamics, materials, engine building and avionics creates an international team of leading enterprises.
- Centralized management of the program is conducted: from the development of aircraft and production to marketing and sales.
- The organization of after-sales service is carried out.
Production technology
The MC-21 mainline aircraft is being developed by the plant of the Irkut Corporation (Irkutsk). The workshops are equipped with modern equipment. The enterprise mastered key technologies and competencies of production of MS-21. As an automated final assembly line, the Durr Systems system will be used. 13 assembly stations have already been commissioned. Serial technologies are used in the production of experimental aircraft. Key Competencies:
- Manufacturing of pipelines.
- Manufacturing of doors.
- Production of fuselage panels and other components.
A complex of technical aids for the training of crews was developed. It includes computer classes and simulators (full-flight, procedural, the entire line of simulators for emergency rescue training, as well as simulator maintenance procedures).
Conclusion
According to the government's plans, the first aircraft should soar into the sky in 2016. By 2017-2018, aircraft manufacturers expect to establish a serial production of all modifications. MC-21 (in the Yak-242 series) should become a breakthrough project to raise Russian aircraft construction to new heights.
