Tenerife-South Airport and Tenerife-North Airport

The largest of the Canary Islands - Tenerife - a place of great tourist opportunities. Incredibly beautiful white beaches, exotic flora and fauna, deserts, mountains, volcanoes, interesting sights, colorful nightlife, such as you expect from a popular holiday destination. It is very popular among the Spaniards themselves, especially during the Easter holidays. Many call it the last European paradise island. All those who make tours in Tenerife, in most cases, get to it by the usual, air way. There are two large aero nodes - Los Rodeos (in the north near the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife) and the Southern Queen Sofia name (in Granadilla de Abona). By bus they are connected to other cities.

Until the seventies there was only one air jet on the island - Los Rodeos. But because of the problems that arose due to unfavorable weather conditions, the question was raised about the need to select a new site and the construction of another facility - technically adequate. With the support of the Ministry of Transport, the island's council purchased land in the municipalities of Granadilla and San Miguel de Abona.

The new Tenerife airport, named "Reina Sofia", was officially opened on November 6, 1978 for national and international air transport movements. At eleven o'clock and fifteen minutes in it landed a plane Mystere with Queen of Spain Dona Sofia on board. She visited the territory of passenger terminals, blessed by the Bishop of the island, Luis Franco Gascon. Since that time, more than 140 million passengers have passed through Tenerife South Airport. It is the second busiest passenger traffic in the Canary Islands and the seventh in Spain.

It is located at a distance of sixty kilometers from the island's capital, next to the coastal cities of El Medano and Los Abrigos. In mid-2009, a new terminal with an area of 21,400 square meters was put into operation, which increased the passenger flow output to 4,000 people. Tenerife-South Airport "Reina Sofia" connects the island with many countries in Europe and Africa with the participation of more than 150 large companies operating in the air transportation system. Currently, its reconstruction and expansion is continuing, in order to maximize the satisfaction of the needs of passengers, whose numbers are constantly increasing, especially on weekends, holidays and in the winter. At the moment, a new project is under development, planning a large expansion by 2020 with a total area of 100,000 square meters. Three floors will be added, a new runway will be built of more than 3000 meters in length and 60 meters in width. This airport of Tenerife, like many others in Spain, is operated by Aena (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegacion Aerea). It also organized a series of educational excursions for students receiving special education related to the knowledge of the operation of air transport.

Los Rodeos is the northern air harbor of the island, located just ten kilometers from Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It serves mainly domestic flights, to a lesser extent international.

In Los Rodeos, the planned passenger flow is more than 4,500,000 people. Its construction is connected with the request of the German airline Lufthansa to connect Berlin with the island through Seville. Opened in 1946, it continues to be regarded today as the main access point to the Canaries. This airport Tenerife received the additional name "North" after the opening of its southern counterpart. In 2003, a new passenger terminal began to operate in it, as well as a unique module for flights between the islands.
