Righteous John the Myrrhbearer: birthday, icon, interesting facts

St. John the Myrrh-Bearer (icon, prayer, interesting facts from life will be presented in this article) is a unique personality, which is not mentioned as often as, for example, about St. Mary Magdalene. Nevertheless, this holy woman left everything to be closer to Jesus Christ and to follow Him. After the Savior died in the Cross, John was among those who could personally anoint the Body of Christ with the world. The Angels themselves informed her that soon her Savior would rise again.

The day of St. John the Myrrh-bearer falls on the 27th of June. Also, the Holy One is revered on April 17.

Unknown saint

About St. John the Myrrh-Bearer is mentioned only by Luke. For some unknown reason, the evangelists no longer mention John. The bearer of the miraculous name, which means "the grace of God" or "God shed mercy." This unselfish woman and not too glorified, but also do not reproach, as, for example, mother Zavedeev, who only wished that her sons were always beside Jesus Christ, who made the Way of the Cross.

Prejudice and prejudice

The Orthodox world speaks of certain prejudices connected with John the Righteous, more precisely with her name. Many believe that girls have problems in life precisely because of him, as it is believed that this name is purely male. Some Christians are deeply convinced that the name of John is not at all Orthodox. Many just ask incredulously when they learn that this name belongs to the Myrrh-Bearing.

From this ancient Jewish name, the famous Slavic names of Jan, Janechka, Yanka occur. Unfortunately, many Yans have to choose another name at baptism, since practically no one connects this name with the name of John, from which it occurs.

Life of St. John the Myrrh-bearer

John was not immediately a Myrrh-bearer. Once it was part of a respectable society and had a fairly high social status. She practically had no contact with the poor, poor people who were near Jesus and followed Him. She did not communicate with women who were abandoned by their husbands and who were forced to go to the porch.

John successfully married Chuz, who served at the court of the king. John was considered a real lady of the court. She had everything - clothes, food, and a roof over her head. She had a relationship with her friends, and prayer. The only son of John was happily growing up to be happy with his parents.

But, unfortunately, the grief did not pass through the houses of John. Her son is seriously ill. It was in Asia, where a particularly serious illness was raging. The young man was dying. Parents tried all available ways of healing, but nothing helped. Then the father decided to turn to the passing Preacher. Khuza could not know that this man was Jesus Christ Himself. The courtier did not understand why the Forerunner did not want to go with him to the palace. It's a special honor to be invited to the palace, thought Khuza.

In every way, he tried to entice Jesus into the palace, so that he healed his son. But in response, he heard these words: "You will never have faith, if you do not see a miracle or a sign." The Savior nevertheless healed the son of Khuza, despite the fact that it was in this palace that the only close friend of Christ, John the Baptist, was stripped of his life. According to legend, it was John who hid the severed head of the Baptist in a secret place in the palace in order to save the body of the Prophet from desecration. It is said that at night she placed her head in a vessel and carried it to the Mount of Olives.

Khuza felt ashamed, but he could not understand why those feelings were hindering him. He was walking home, experiencing great excitement. John sent servants to tell Hughes the good news that his son had fully recovered.

After some time, the boy's parents realized that they had turned to Jesus Christ for help. This news reached the king of Herod. The courtiers remembered that John often asked the Baptist.

Evil Rock or God's Blessing

King Herod was angry. Khuza was afraid for his position and for his life. Therefore, he decided to immediately divorce his wife and send her back home, so that the king's anger would not harm him. In those days, divorce was common. Any reason, even the most insignificant, could lead to a divorce. It was difficult for a woman. Even with a high status, she lost everything in a moment after the divorce. If she still had parents alive, she could return to them.

Khuza had a good example of how you can, after expelling your wife, marry a younger and beautiful woman. In his eyes, so did King Herod himself. There are rumors that John left herself to avoid trouble.

From the maid of honor to the saints

But, one way or another, the woman was among the poor women who had a dubious past, but rigorously followed Christ. She came to the Savior, because He healed her son. This is the only refuge she has left. John was immensely grateful to Christ. She no longer had anyone to go to. She had not asked the Savior for anything. I just listened to him humbly and listened to everything that awoke in her soul from his words. Now John was among the orphans, beggars and abandoned, who with genuine attention asked the Preacher.

In her past life, she accepted the luxury and well-being of her family as God's blessing. Now, John saw that in fact the Lord is with the poor and unhappy. From this rethinking she became joyful, as she realized that she had not lost anything, but, on the contrary, acquired much. All this time, the woman was confident that she was not needed and divorced, that he was angry with her and would never let her into her kingdom. But Jesus repeatedly said that God does not care about luxury palaces.

John was immediately taken into a new environment. Nobody was gloating over her and was not happy that she had lost everything. No one looked at her with anger or envy, did not reproach the past wealth. She immediately offered bread and took care of her peace of mind.

Life in Service to Others

Then John decided to sell all of her valuables, which she cherished for a rainy day. Now her dream came true, she could serve Jesus, feed the hungry beggars who followed the Savior.

After giving all, John mixed with the crowd of poor women and no one except Luke did not even notice. Luke always regretted the unfortunate women for their difficult fate.

Jesus always answered John, for he knew the depth of her heart and understood her sadness, as understood by the sorrow of everyone who spoke to Him.

Luke told John that unexpected joy and great salvation awaited her soon, because the Lord is very merciful and does not tolerate when someone is suffering. Luke often comforted John so that she would not mourn.

I took care of the future Myrrh-Bearing and the mother of Jesus - Maria. She treated her like a daughter who was in trouble, grieved with John about the abandoned son and was glad that he could still be healed, and again grieved that he could no longer be with his mother.
