The Lubavitcher Rebbe Schneerson (1902-1994) is a phenomenal spiritual Jewish thinker and leader of the modern era. Many works of the Jewish leader have been published, he has crowds of envoys all over the planet, bringing the light of his teachings to his brethren, thousands of followers, millions of admirers and supporters who consider him to be a mentor, teacher, leader and role model. This is a man whose efforts have shaken the conscience of the generation, the spiritual awakening of the nation began.

Childhood

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, whose photo is presented in this article, was born in the city of Nikolaev (in the Russian Empire). The father of the boy Levi-Itzhok Schneerson was one of the most famous rabbis. The scientist, who possessed extensive knowledge in the Jewish law, the Talmud, the Hasidic thought, proved to be an irreconcilable opponent of the new winds brought by the Bolsheviks. Khan (his wife, the daughter of Meer-Shloymo Janowski - the Nicholas rabbi) was a faithful friend and adherent of her husband.

The father named his son in honor of Rabbi Menachem-Mendl, his great-grandfather, the 3rd Lubavitcher Rebbe, known in the Jewish community as "Tsemah zedek". A well-known relative on the father's side of Rabbi Rashab of the child's parents supplied a series of instructions. For example, the mother had to perform the obligatory ritual washing of the hands before feeding the baby.

Training

When the child was five years old, his parents took him from the heder because of his amazing success in studies, after which they hired him for individual lessons of teachers. The teacher from Heder believed that this child was born to become great.

In the memoirs of his childhood, Rabbi Lubavitch said nothing about children's games. The child did not play, he constantly studied. It should be noted that many are proud to get acquainted with him, but no one will be able to name his friend. Probably he had no friends at all: for children the child was too clever. Father realized early that his son would not be a simple student of a yeshiva. The boy was 9 years old when he sent his work in Jewish jurisdiction to the newspaper for children "Ah", which was published in Lubavichy. The composition of the child prodigy was published.

He was fascinated not only by the Torah, but also by the secular sciences. Dad allowed him to study science in his spare time. Within six months, a small Menahem-Mendel graduated from the gymnasium with an external degree, receiving a state certificate and a gold medal.

Brothers

But Isroel-Arie-Leib became a mathematician. After the revolution, he moved to Palestine, then to England, where he lived until the end of his years.

Rostov

In 1923 Menachem Mendel went to Rostov, where, perhaps, the most important meeting in his life took place. He became acquainted with Yosef-Yitzhok Schneerson (Reb Lubavitch 6th). Together with his family in 1927 the rebbe left Russia, and two years later married in Warsaw to his daughter Hae-Muset. The newlyweds moved from Warsaw to Berlin.

Berlin

The subsequent period of his life, the Rebbe Lubavichy studies at the University of Berlin. With the coming to power of the Nazis, Schneerson is forced to leave Heidelberg University, where he studied philosophy and at the same time mathematics.

Paris

The couple moved from Germany to Paris in 1933. The study of the young man continued at the Faculty of Shipbuilding in the Sorbonne, where he received a diploma.

USA

Today, many people know the video, as the Lubavitcher rabbi sings. Then the young man tried to just survive. After a series of truly detective circumstances and adventures in 1941, the Schneerson family managed to flee to the USA from occupied France, where by that time his father-in-law, Rabbi Yosef-Itskhok, had already settled.

Here, the rabbi expected to engage in shipbuilding - his professional activities. He for a while actually took part in the construction of submarines at a military base. His secretary says that the Rebbe for the rest of his life received payments due to him for innovations in shipbuilding. In 1950, Yosef-Yitzhok Schneerson (6th Lubavitcher Rebbe) died. Accordingly, the question arose about the successor. Interestingly, before Hasidim there was a choice between the two sons-in-law of the rabbi. The husband of the eldest daughter of Rabbi Shmarya Gurarii was the head of the Lyubavich Yeshiva. All the years he spent near his father-in-law and could become his successor. Rabbi Menachem Mendel did not aspire to assume such a great responsibility for himself. He represented another generation: a scientist, a graduate of the Sorbonne, who speaks European languages. Yosef-Yitzhok did not give clear instructions on this matter. Although he hinted several times that he would prefer to see the younger son-in-law as a successor.

Becoming a Rebbe

The future Rebbe was categorically against the offer to get a father-in-law's place. He even said to the Hasidim who annoyed him that he would have to leave this place to get rid of these absurd proposals. This turned out to be a good exam for applicants. After another council, Rabbi Shmarya said that he wants to become a Hasidim of the brother-in-law himself, while he asks to take on the duties of a rabbi for himself. But this was not enough for a young man. On the first anniversary of the departure of Rabbi Yosef-Yizhok from this world, his younger son-in-law became in fact a new rebbe.

Over the period of his leadership, he managed to bring more people to Jewry than all the leaders of the current generation together. The last (7) Lubavitcher Rebbe used methods that were completely innovative, unprecedented in Jewish organizations. It seems to apply all technologies, opportunities, public influence, the press in order to achieve success. The impoverished, dying Hasidic movement became a powerful force, whose influence was felt by millions of people. The Rebbe was able to build a huge network of Chabad branches all over the world.

Israel

Many wondered why the rebbe does not move to Israel to permanent residence. This issue was obvious because of his love for the country, interest in the events taking place there.

This question was asked more than once by the rabbi himself. He once said that he knows that some people talk about the simplicity of the reasoning about the unity of Jerusalem, being on the Eastern Park. Only every Jew has his own destiny in the land of Israel. The whole faith of the Jews is connected with this country.

The second question is why do not all go there to live. Israelis constantly come to the Diaspora Jews, where they are asked to help resolve various issues with a certain senator or to influence a certain government official so that he begins to treat the country better. The Rebbe sought to ensure that in Israel there were maximum benefits for families with a large number of children. At the same time, everyone could personally write a letter to the Lubavitcher Rebbe.

The Message of the Rebbe

If we try to describe in a few words the main message of the Rebbe to the world, it will probably be the responsibility for every Jew of the entire Jewish people. It does not matter who this person is and in what spiritual state. There is no person about whom you can say: "farfalen", or "lost." Jews have no right to leave a single person without attention. For this, the Rebbe created the Chabad empire, and sent his emissaries to places where there were very few Jews.
