Reproduction spathiphyll at home

Among all the abundance of beautifully flowering indoor plants , the spathiphyllum enjoys almost maximum popularity among flower growers . Care and reproduction of this flower are simple, although, like any living organism, it needs care. But if you are not too lazy and give him a little attention, he will thank you with his undemanding and long beautiful flowering.

Features of the plant

Like the rest of the aroids, spathiphyllum is not deadly, but still toxic. In its leaves there is calcium oxalate, so some people with allergies can be touched by dermatitis. Do not let the cat, if it is in your house, chew the plant. The death of the animal is unlikely, but the sores on the oral mucous membranes, diarrhea and vomiting are unlikely to please you. On the other hand, poisonous phytoncides spathiphyllum does not emit into the air, so that the poison can not be inhaled. In this case, it is worth taking into account its useful properties. The plant excellently clears the air space in the house from harmful components. However, for the effectiveness of this process in a room of twenty square meters should live six or seven adult plants. However, the problem is not - the reproduction of spathiphyll is easy, even a budding florist can cope with it.

Choose the window sill

This plant is shade-resistant. Moreover, it just prefers soft, diffused lighting. In the bright, direct light, the leaves of the spathiphyllum fade and begin to dry. So the ideal choice will be a northern, usually empty window. However, if there is very little light (for example, just at this place a large branchy tree grows), then the foliage becomes densely green, tapers and stretches. Flowering is in question. And reproduction of spathiphyll luck will not be successful - new copies simply will not get accustomed. But this plant lives well under artificial illumination. Even fluorescent lights are not required - quite ordinary, flat. This is used by phytodesigners in the design of offices and shops. In the summer it would be nice to take pots out on the street - on the balcony or in the garden. Only again it is necessary to choose a shaded place, so that the plants do not get burned and do not "become sad" from the excess of sunlight.

Temperature conditions

Special thermal conditions do not need to create spathiphyllum. The usual room temperature suits him well. However, if the thermometer shows less than +18, the growth of the flower stops, and it will not bloom. Higher temperatures are also required in the reproduction of spathiphyllum: 22-23 degrees are required for planting plants for survival. Therefore, they often cover them with cut plastic bottles with holes, creating a mini-greenhouse.

From what you need to carefully protect the spathiphyllum, so it's from drafts. Even with a fan running nearby, a flower can get sick and die. When using the air conditioner, you should not turn on the mode below 20 degrees, and pots with plants should be moved away from it.

How often to water

Spathiphyllum is a water-loving plant. The soil in his "house" should always be wet. Do not wait for the earth's coma to dry completely. However, when the overflow is high, the probability of decaying the roots is high. Therefore, if there is still water left in the pan one hour after irrigation, it must necessarily be drained. A sign of excess moisture is the appearance on the leaves of dark spots. Noticing them, we need to revise the schedule of irrigation. The lack of water is manifested by a sharp wilting of all leaves. To be frightened it is not necessary: literally in couple of hours after reception of a moisture they again will be straightened.

Especially cautious should be, watering the planted spathiphyllum, - reproduction and transplants can injure a plant. Therefore, the land is well spilled before these procedures, and watering resumes only a day after three or four.

Humidity is important

Loves spathiphyllum and spraying - like all plants with a large leaf plate. In the heat such manipulations are required to be done twice a day - in the morning, before the onset of the sun, and in the evening, when it ceases. If there is no such possibility (for example, in the office), the pot is put in a pan with wet moss, pebbles or expanded clay. However, even these measures do not eliminate the need to spray a flower in the summer even in a day.

Transplantations

Moves to a new place of residence spathiphyllum are needed throughout life. Young plants are required to be transplanted annually, adults who are more than five years old - only when the roots have filled the entire pot. You can determine the moment by the roots, which are inserted through the drainage holes. The new pot is bought low and only a little larger than the previous one: in such conditions the spathiphyllum gets accustomed faster and more blossoms. Drainage is necessary, and it is better to choose larger ones. If there is a possibility, it is necessary to add sphagnum to the soil - the soil will not dry out too drastically. The ideal substrate will consist of soddy land, sand, peat and leaf land. The ratio is 1: 1: 2: 2. After transplanting, in the evening, the plant is sprayed with epine (two drops on a glass of warm water). So he quickly and painlessly get accustomed. With the same purpose, watering stops, but sprinkling is mandatory twice a day before the resumption of watering.

Leaf seating

Sooner or later you will want to increase your plantation of these beautiful plants. First of all, we will caution against mistakes of those who did not grow spathiphyllum earlier. Reproduction by a sheet from him is impossible. Unlike, for example, begonias, a leaf spathiphyllum, dropped into the water, just rot, without giving roots. The same will happen if it is immediately stuck in the ground, as it is done with many succulents. Florists practice the reproduction of spathiphyllum with cuttings or by dividing the rhizome. Perhaps, of course, the application of seeds, but it is complicated by many factors, which will be discussed below.

Cutting

Vegetative methods are applicable to almost any plant - one more, some less. Spathiphyllum is no exception. Multiplication by bush division is most popular due to the relative simplicity of the process. At the base of an adult plant, "babies" are formed - a small leaf rosette with nested roots. In the spring, when the transplant time comes, they are carefully separated from the mother plant. The main thing in this process is to untangle the roots, trying not to cut them off. Cuttings root in wet sand or perlite. Reproduction of spathiphyllum will occur without any trouble, if each new bush is covered with a transparent cap, preferably with holes. If they are absent and can not be done, two or three times a day will have to air the planting. When the root system grows and gets stronger, the planted plants move to the substrate prepared in the manner already described.

Fragment of the rhizome

You can also arrange a different way spathiphyllum. Reproduction by root groups, on the one hand, gives almost one hundred percent survival rate. On the other hand, it must be able to do so as not to ruin the mother plant. So only experienced flower growers resort to it. This operation is also performed in the spring, during transplant manipulations, so as not to disturb the plant once again. The rhizome is divided by a sharp knife, the slices are poured with crushed charcoal. By no means activated! In other respects, the same actions as in cuttings.

Troubles with seeds

There is another way, very unreliable, to get a new spathiphyllum. Reproduction at home using seed in theory is possible, but it is unlikely to succeed. Firstly, they will require artificial pollination, which does not always give the planned results. Secondly, the germination capacity of the seeds of this flower is very low. Moreover, the seeds are not lezhkie: even after a day half of them are already guaranteed not to give sprouts. Thirdly, after sowing in sandy-peat soil, the container is covered with glass, and your task is simultaneously to maintain its moisture, and prevent the seed material from suffocating. Therefore, basically the method remains purely theoretical - gardeners reproduce spathiphyllum vegetatively.

Bloom

The main thing that attracts lovers of indoor plants in spathiphyllum - a long, up to two months, flowering. An additional bait is also the fact that most varieties produce "cobs" quite willingly. However, it happens that, despite care and proper care, the plant is capricious. There are several ways to push it in the right direction.

  1. Rearrange the pot. Most often the refusal of flowering is caused by an unfavorable light or thermal regime. You can try to move the plant in a more "bright" place. At first, so that it is used, it is necessary either to pritenit it, or to move it to a less illuminated place. After adaptation, it will be possible to give the spathiphyllum more light. Very often, almost immediately, he throws out the buds.
  2. Often stimulates flowering high humidity. Either make more frequent spraying, either turn on the air humidifier, or simply place a container with water next to it.
  3. If such simple actions did not result in a result, translate spathiphyllum (temporarily!) To water starvation. First, a couple of weeks, water it less often than usual, and then leave it for a week without water. In order not to harm the flower, squirt it more often. Having stood the specified time, move the pot closer to the light, return to the normal irrigation regime and fertilize spathiphyllum with fertilizers for flowering plants. Within a month, it will blossom.

Well, and that the bloom was longer, you should cut off the discolored "cobs" in time. Then they will not hinder the development of new ones.

Try to bring in your nakonny garden spathiphyllum. Reproduction (see photo in the article), not difficult and almost always successful, will allow you to quickly decorate your house with this beautiful plant with glossy leaves and delicate white flowers.
