Flowering and non-flowering houseplants

All indoor plants can be divided into flowering and non-flowering (including decorative). Both kinds are represented by a huge variety of species. Let us consider in more detail some of them.

Flowering houseplants are, for example, poinsettia, flowers on which blossom in the winter. It does not need careful care, so it will not bring you unnecessary trouble. This plant can be purchased already in the planted form or by a handle. The poinsettia planted in the pot can be kept as a window, in close proximity to sunlight, and in a more remote place, in the middle of the room. The top of the plant is decorated with bracts of bright color with medium-sized flowers of small size. During flowering, poinsettia should be watered twice a day, so in winter, the room temperature is too high for it. From the moment when the large upper leaves begin to die, the flower must be cut by one third, removing the fading leaves. During this period the poinsettia should be watered and fed abundantly. After several weeks, during the rest period, the amount of water should gradually decrease so that the soil dries out and easily separates from the edge of the pot. The poinsettia will temporarily leave only bare branches. The flower should be moved to a cool place, and by the end of December it will return to its familiar form.

Indoor flowers blooming in winter are also represented by cyclamen. More precisely, the period of its flowering begins from the beginning of winter to the middle of spring. This plant does not like light, so it is best to place it in places of minimal illumination. Cyclamen is easy to grow with seeds.

How to properly plant these flowering houseplants? The pot is covered with peat soil, and the seeds are pre-prepared, filling them with water for a day. They should be located on the surface of the ground, very slightly sprinkled with peat mixture. Sown cyclamens should be covered with a film and minimize the flow of light with dark paper. Every day for forty days, the flowers must be ventilated, then cover them again from above. When the first shoots appear, the dark paper can be removed. When flowering houseplants will ascend, they are transplanted into separate pots. They will blossom in a year or two. The period of rest from flowering in cyclamens comes in the summer.

Flowering houseplants are inconceivable without azalea. She decorates an apartment or office space throughout the winter period. Experts advise you to buy already planted and bloomed plant. To keep it as long as possible, proper care is needed. To do this, the flower should be watered daily and kept in close proximity to the light, for example, on the windowsill, while protecting from direct sunlight. In early summer, you can propagate the plant with cuttings: cut off the branches of azalea and transplant them into a weakly acidic soil. In this case, they should be watered abundantly and sprayed frequently.

Non-flowering houseplants have a diverse form and color of leaves. One of the representatives of this group is the ficus, which is quite unpretentious in care. Plants with motley coloring of leaves need bright sunlight, and with green - muted lighting. In order for the ficus to settle down, it is enough to drop it into a loose and water-permeable soil. Once a year the flower needs to be transplanted into a large container. Reproduction occurs by cuttings, and the most favorable time of the year for him is spring or early summer. Do not forget about the care of the flower, which periodically needs to rub the leaves or sprinkle them with water. In the cool autumn-winter period, the leaves of some species of ficus begin to crumble. To preserve the shape of the plant during the summer, it is necessary to trim.

Other types of non-flowering plants are also: araucaria, cypress, asplenium, aspidistra, pahira and many others. Choose your favorite varieties and decorate the living space not only in summer, but also in winter!
