Planting cucumbers in bags. Growing cucumbers in bags and bottles

One of the main difficulties that gardeners and farmers face when growing vegetables is a lack of space. Compact organization of useful space does not always contribute to maintaining optimal conditions for the growth of crops. Cucumbers in this regard are particularly demanding, since they have branching stems that require space for growth. Not to lose in productivity and rationally plan a place on a site the compact landing of cucumbers in bags or bottles will allow. This method, according to the statements of experienced gardeners, allows you to grow up to 1,000 cucumbers per square meter. Of course, such a result is possible only on condition of competent planting and further care.

Optimal time for planting

Preparation should begin in early May. By this time, it is necessary to purchase seeds of cucumbers, and then plant them in small pots for germination. Even at the stage of purchase, it is necessary to calculate what will be the planting of cucumbers in bags - one by one or several saplings per container. A month later, in the late spring, you can plant seedlings in the prepared beds. Around mid-summer, you can observe the abundant growth of a cucumber tree in height and begin to look closely at the first fruits.

Preparatory work

For planting, you need polyethylene bags, and you should choose the most dense material. The volume of containers should be about 70 liters - the optimum capacity for the development of the root system and the formation of nutrient-enriched soil. The earth and the layer of manure are poured into the bag. This is the minimum set of "stuffing" components, which will allow to grow healthy cucumbers in polyethylene bags in sufficient quantity. Further to the center of the soil is to stick a two-meter wooden rod-stick. At its end a nail for mating is nailed.

Advantages of a vertical bed

Outwardly this method of organization seems to be severely restricted and restrains the plants in further growth. But, as practice shows, careful watering and properly selected fertilizer composition for the soil contribute to a good yield, which is given by cucumbers planted in sacks. The growing conditions are more important than the organization of beds, which in itself is very convenient. In this regard, thermal comfort for plants, and protection from pests is also important. As advantages, the owner can count on saving space on the site, early maturing of cucumbers, the ability to move beds and the original decorative element in the flowering period.

Irrigation System

For the organization of irrigation, several tubes should be inserted into the structure. The lengths can be up to a meter in length - the main thing is the presence of holes in them, which must be on different axes of each tube. The optimal model means three tubes placed vertically in a bag around the rod. To ensure the full- grown cucumber in bags with sufficient irrigation, it is also necessary to build a hose with water. This will allow the leaves and roots to be supplied with moisture in hot weather. The regularity of water procedures is determined based on local climatic conditions. In particularly hot regions, watering should be done every day, and in other cases, the frequency can be reduced to three times a week.

Planting and growing

Much of the success of growing depends on how correctly the cucumber planting in bags was organized and, in particular, their distribution. Three seedlings must be planted between sticks, while others can be placed in previously created side sections in a polyethylene bag. Incisions should be made with a triangular shape and bends. In the pockets formed in this way, a cucumber is planted vertically. One bag can accommodate up to 15 seedlings with such a system.

As the cucumber grows, you need to tie it. Even before the cucumber was planted in sacks, it is necessary to prepare knots. The first garter is done when 6-7 leaves appear on the plants. To do this, use a stick with prepared knots. Also, pegs distributed around the bag will be required - they will be used to fix the rope.

Optimal conditions for the development of cucumber

In order to obtain the maximum possible yield, it is necessary first of all to consider filling the bag. In addition to humus, it is recommended to use ash and superphosphate. At the bottom, you can put a variety of garbage from the garden and dilute them with humus. Further it is necessary to create a filling base with superphosphate, ash and the same humus. One of the secrets of how to grow cucumbers in a bag with a plentiful harvest is to protect the seedlings. First of all, plants should be protected from frost. The bag is not as protected from the cold as the open ground. For warming, you can use mulching paper, sawdust or dry grass. Sprinkle the surface carefully, so that there is no contact with the cucumber. Ideally, this cover should be a warming layer, but again use mulch is only in places with risks of freezing.

Tricks to Consider

The use of a bag for growing vegetables involves many nuances that manifest themselves depending on the influence of external conditions. Nevertheless, there are universal rules, accounting for which will make the cultivation of cucumbers in bags more fruitful. Among these nuances are the following:

  • Since the operation of the polyethylene bag on the site involves risks of its damage, it should be fenced as much as possible from contact with sharp objects.
  • The bag is installed only in an upright position. It is best to provide for its installation a small depression in the ground.
  • Farmers usually use large bags in which several seedlings are housed, but if a small allowance for planting allows and is planned, it is better for each plant to separate the container.
  • Mixing varieties in one bag is also not recommended, because cucumbers have different requirements for temperature conditions - accordingly, the measures for insulation will be different.

Of course, this is not a complete list of rules, and many subtleties in answering the question of how to grow cucumbers in a sack will be found in the course of personal observations. Do not forget that many factors are of an individual nature and are manifested depending on the local climate, such as the soil used, the variety of cucumbers, etc.

Features of growing in bottles

This method is similar in many respects to growing in bags, but it is not so complicated and practical enough. You can use several plastic bottles with a volume of 2.5-5 liters. The upper part of each of them is cut off so that the rim is left. After that, the tank is immersed in the soil by approximately 70%. The earth is removed from the bottle, and the soil filled with useful fertilizers is placed in its place. You can plant one seedling or one in each bottle, or several seeds. With a competent organization growing cucumbers in bottles gives the following benefits:

  • In the process of irrigation, water remains exactly within the root system, not blurring over the entire surface of the bed.
  • Plastic walls serve as a barrier to pests, including the bear and locust.
  • Do not become a problem and the development of weeds near the cucumber - a plastic shell prevents their growth in the zone of the garden.
  • With long-term operation of the bottles, there is no need to update the soil layer throughout the site - a dot change of the soil in the "pots" facilitates maintenance of the ridges.

Despite all the advantages of this method, the cultivation of cucumbers in bottles has many opponents. First of all, criticism implies cramped conditions for the development of seedlings and the further growth of an adult cucumber. However, this deficiency is important only when growing large varieties of plants.

Reviews about the method of growing in bags

The practice of applying this method mainly refers to special farms and experienced truck farmers, as amateurs do not often decide on experimental methods of cultivation. Nevertheless, this attitude has changed the benefits and, in particular, the yield that cucumbers give in bags. Cultivation, reviews of which still have conflicting assessments, does not require much effort, which attracts newcomers. For professionals, this method is convenient, first of all, by saving large areas and the possibility of harvesting in the winter. Negative reviews usually affect the complexity of the technical organization of beds. Anyway, the preparation of bags, their servicing and setting up a watering system with pipes inevitably require time.
