As already mentioned, it is an infectious disease, the causative agent of which is pertussis. There is an opinion that it is possible to transmit the infection from animals or through household items. In fact, the only source of pathogenic microorganisms is the infected person. Pertussis stick is excreted together with mucus and phlegm during coughing, the radius of its spread is not more than three meters. The causative agent quickly perishes under the influence of environmental factors, so transmission through toys and other items is almost impossible.

The incubation period of the disease can range from three days to two weeks - only after that begin to appear the first signs. And the first few days you can notice changes in the behavior of the child - he becomes listless, quickly gets tired, loses his appetite, complains of weakness and drowsiness. In the future, there is an increase in temperature, sometimes even up to 40 degrees. The main symptom of whooping cough is a cough that is paroxysmal. Such attacks can be up to 20 per day, and during the cough the child does not have enough air. Sometimes it starts vomiting and even cramps, the baby's face turns blue. It should be noted that seizures are most often observed at night, because of which the child does not get enough sleep, which only aggravates his condition. Sputum in whooping cough is thick, viscous and draining away. With appropriate treatment, the disease passes through 5 to 7 weeks. In some cases, cough can torment the child and up to three months.

This condition is often accompanied by a number of complications. Pertussis is a disease that can lead to pneumonia. Another complication is encephalopathy, which develops against a background of hypoxia and convulsive seizures, which are sometimes accompanied by a cough.

The doctor may also prescribe antipyretics and medications that facilitate expectoration. In such a state, a child simply needs a balanced diet containing enough vitamins and nutrients. It is good for a sick child to spend time in the open air, so do not forget to ventilate the room and drive your baby for short walks.

Of course, protective measures include improving the immunity of the child, as well as eliminating any contact with sick people. Nevertheless, the most effective method of prevention is vaccination, which takes place at about three months of age.
