Paulo Coelho, "The Alchemist": a brief summary of the novel

In the center of events is the shepherd Santiago, who passionately dreams of finding an unimaginable treasure value. The life path predestined to him promises many new discoveries, one of which is the cognition of oneself. He learns to listen to himself, his thoughts, desires, and most importantly - to his heart. One day Santiago realizes that his dream does not belong to him alone - it is part of the Soul of the Universe. It is noteworthy that Paulo Coelho's books, The Alchemist, are not able to convey to the reader the gradual realization by the shepherd of the continuous connection between the need for the realization of human desires and spirituality.

Santiago was only a modest shepherd whose desires were rather modest - all he needed in this life was freedom of will for him and his sheep, a little wine and an exciting book that he would carry in his bag. But destiny predestined him another way in the form of unforeseen wanderings in search of priceless treasures, hidden in the foundation of the Egyptian pyramids. When Santiago meets the wise King Melchizedek, who pushed the shepherd to more decisive actions, the shepherd goes on a quest. The next day he sells his sheep and leaves his native places, following the dream of his life - a young man leaves for Africa.

Do not forget that the novel Paulo Coelho "Alchemist" - a book that is one of the most important literary phenomena of the 20th century. First of all, because the history of the shepherd Santiago is a kind of spiritual confession that can be used in everyday human life by any rationally thinking person, regardless of his social status.

The next episode of the book that hit the world is the arrival of Santiago in Africa. Already here, the protagonist realizes that his life path will not be as easy as previously thought. On the first day, the poor shepherd was robbed, and, left alone, he was not able even to speak to someone, because he did not know the Arabic language. After such events the shepherd was in utter confusion, and was already going to return back, away from his dream. But he remembered the conversation with the sage Melchizedek, King of Salem, who met him at home, and his doubts gradually began to dissipate. It is worth noting that the book "The Alchemist" Paulo Coelho is a short guide to realizing one's own desires, in other words, the life of Santiago is a guide that does not allow a person to die prematurely before reaching his goal or his dream.

Settled in a trading store, the shepherd earns enough money to buy a new herd of sheep. Santiago has thoughts of returning home, but at the last moment he decides to risk all the money he has earned and go to realize his dream - to seek treasure.

In the desert, Santiago meets a traveler of English origin, who tells him about the mysteries of alchemy, as well as the famous alchemist in the local places. New acquaintances spend a lot of time together over conversations about the spiritual nature, but soon they hear the news of the impending tribal war.

Among the most significant events of Paulo Coelho's book The Alchemist, a brief summary can highlight the main points of the plot structure: arrival in the oasis, knowledge of the true feeling of love, vision of the impending battle and an important conversation with the alchemist who is able to lead Santiago to the treasures.

Further adventures of Santiago turn into a real test for him, both as a spiritual and as a test of faith. Incredible magical movement, which saved him and the alchemist life, once again proves the existence of the Soul of the Universe, which is able to do great things.

At the end of the book, the reader will find for himself many discoveries that can turn all of his current view of the universe. Paulo Coelho's book The Alchemist (a short summary, unfortunately, can not emphasize all the subtleties and profound meaning of this work) can awaken the reader to thoughts that, perhaps, in ordinary life, could not have received due attention.
