Peas, a plant from the family of legumes, is the oldest cultivated vegetable culture. People have known for a long time what useful peas are, and it is used not only for cooking food, but also used in medicine. His homeland is China, India and the Middle East. The ancient Romans fed slaves with simple and nutritious soups of peas, a little later they learned about it in the Mediterranean and Europe. Traditional and popular was the pea on the table with Spaniards, French and Germans. At the time of the Baptism of Rus, we learned about it as well, it became an excellent alternative to meat during fasting.

The Dutch cultivated a new sort of peas in the 17th century - cereal, it was characterized by an increased amount of sugar, quickly ripened and was very delicate. To this day, this variety remains the best for canning, it is the most common and consumed pea. Useful properties of this legume consist in a large number of proteins and carbohydrates, vitamins, salts, starch. The most common varieties of peas are sugar, which is eaten completely with the pod, the cerebral, which has already been mentioned, and the crusty, most caloric and starchy variety, which is dried and used only in the form prepared.

Is peas useful?

Definitely, yes! It is endowed with many necessary valuable substances and is perfectly absorbed by the body. Groats from peas have a therapeutic and prophylactic effect, strengthens blood vessels, has a beneficial effect on metabolism, reduces the risk of malignant tumors and heart diseases. Peas, useful properties of which are also in the cosmetological effect, heals abscesses and boils, and pea flour makes rejuvenating facial masks , removes pigment spots and whitens freckles. Proteins contained in peas contain amino acids, the same as in meat, as well as vitamins B, PP, carotene, starch and fiber. Its nutritional value is higher than many other vegetables and even potatoes.

The advantage of peas is that it almost does not lose useful properties during heat treatment. Due to the low calorie content of green peas, it is used in dietology, it restores digestion and establishes metabolic processes in the body. Peas, having an easy diuretic effect, helps to remove stones from the bile and bladder, the removal of toxins and the overall cleansing of the entire body. Nicotinic acid, included in its composition, reduces the level of harmful cholesterol, and antioxidants - the risk of infarction, cancer.

Drinking peas for food.

From peas, a hearty and very tasty vegetable, people have learned to cook a variety of different lean dishes - salads, vinaigrette, snacks. It is used in soups, porridges, side dishes, add pies and pies to toppings, make casseroles and pancakes from it. One of the most nutritious and traditional dishes from peas is pea puree. It is used as a garnish, and as an independent dish. An important advantage of such beans as peas, whose useful properties are already known, is its low price and long shelf life. Contraindications to the use of peas.

Peas are contraindicated for people suffering from gout, nephritis and inflammatory processes in the intestines and stomach. With a stomach ulcer it can be eaten, but only in the form of a well-cooked puree. Prevent bloating after eating pea dishes, if you add bread and carrots to them.

Undoubtedly, the most useful and healing is the fresh, freshly peeled green peas. But you can also freeze peas, the useful properties of which will remain practically unchanged. It can and should be eaten regularly, because it is an indispensable source of vegetable protein .
