Pain in the knee joint. Causes, symptoms and recommendations.

Pain in the knee joint often occurs in a significant part of the population. In most cases, they quickly pass and do not deliver to a person, much discomfort. But there are cases when pains in the knee joint are manifested constantly, negatively affecting the whole life of a person.

The causes of pain in the knee joint are divided into two main groups - traumatic and chronic changes associated with various factors.

The cause of acute traumatic injuries of the structure of the knee joint may be ligament rupture, sprain, dislocation, rupture of the meniscus and, finally, fracture of the kneecap. Other lesions of the bone structures directly entering the knee joint are also possible. In this group can be attributed and a number of reasons that provoke an overload of the joint. These include tendonitis or inflammation of tendons, tendonosis - microscopic ruptures of tendon tissues, bursitis - inflammation of bags with joint fluid. Pain can also arise as a result of the so-called syndrome of fibrinous film (this is the process, which causes folds in the articular ligaments). The abovementioned traumatic conditions cause painful sensations of a different nature and intensity.

Pain in the knee joint can be caused by chronic changes, for example, due to illnesses. These types of pain are not associated with overloads or injuries.

Osteoarthritis and arthrosis are related to degenerative joint disease. These types of diseases are characterized by pronounced pain in the knee, especially in the mornings. During the day, the intensity of pain sensations tends to decrease. Quite often pain is accentuated on the place of past injuries. There are other causes of pain in the knee joint, caused by some diseases and changes related to age. The older the person, the greater the risk of injury and the occurrence of such diseases.

If you have knee pain, you should consult a doctor, but to relieve pain, you can take analgesic medication. Aspirin, ibuprofen have a powerful analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. You can also take acetaminophen, but it will only ease the pain without affecting the swelling itself, if any.

You can also use a whirlpool or a warm bath. In order to reduce pain, it is necessary to reduce the load on the knees. Dropping only 4.5 kilograms of weight, you can reduce the current load on the knee joint by 36 kg.

There are physical exercises that significantly reduce the detrimental effect of excessive body weight on the knees. These kinds of exercises include cycling, swimming, walking. If running exercises are necessary for you, you should increase the warm-up time, you can also reduce the distance and so on.

In order to strengthen the joints, you can do gymnastics. There are special programs designed to increase the strength and flexibility of the muscles involved in the walking process. Strong hip muscles and strong hamstrings are a good insurance against most chronic diseases.

Appeal to the doctor is necessary in those cases, if because of pain it becomes difficult to move, if the pain lasts more than 24 hours and is accompanied by pronounced edema, redness, and so on. Also it is necessary to worry at occurrence of excessive mobility in joints or impossibility to maintain loading under the influence of the weight.

If the pain becomes so severe that it is even difficult for you to move, you should urgently seek help from a doctor. Consult with a specialist is necessary if the pain in the knee joint of an incomprehensible origin lasts more than three days. If, in addition to severe pain, you notice redness or marked swelling lasting more than a day, it is also recommended to see a doctor.
