Museum of Russian Impressionism: a description, collections and interesting facts

The direction in painting, called "impressionism", originated in France. However, very soon it spread all over the world, forcing artists to abandon the accepted static canons in favor of dynamism. In the late 19th - early 20th century, the Russian school of impressionism was formed, whose followers' works were more tangible and substantive than their French counterparts.

At the end of May 2016 in the press there were reports of the opening of a new cultural object in the territory of the former confectionary factory "Bolshevik". The Museum of Russian Impressionism (this name was received by this collection of works of art) invites everyone to see the canvases of famous artists who created at the turn of the century before last and to take part in various educational events.

Building

The Museum of Russian Impressionism (address: Leningradsky Prospect, 15, building 11) is located in the building, which was reconstructed from the former warehouse premises of the factory "Bolshevik". The architectural project was executed by the British architectural bureau John McAslan and Partners. Outside, the building has minimalistic features, and the interior layout has been made taking into account the need to use the most advanced museum technologies. In particular, the creators of the project tried to extract the maximum benefit from the opportunities that the round shape of the building provided them. As a result, a multilayer curved screen appeared. It was decided to use it to project the installations of the contemporary artist from the USA Jean-Christophe Kue, who demonstrate the process of creating paintings.

Permanent exhibition

The Museum of Russian Impressionism was created, above all, thanks to the well-known philanthropist Boris Mints, who decided to make his private collection public. In total, 80 works are displayed in the main exposition located on the first and second floors of the building. Among them are paintings by such masters of Russian impressionism as K. Korovin, K. Yuon, Yu. Pimenov, V. Serov, P. Konchalovsky and others. Since there are a lot of pictures left in the museum's storerooms that also deserve attention, it is supposed from time to time to produce Changes in the composition of the exhibited paintings.

Exhibitions

The first works with which the Museum of Russian Impressionism decided to introduce visitors in honor of its discovery were the paintings of the little-known artist Arnold Lakhovsky. The exhibition will be valid until August 27, 2016. Fans of painting can see almost fifty paintings from several private collections and 12 museums. In addition to paintings from the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and other well-known collections, several works from private American and European collections are displayed, which have almost never been exhibited.

A distinctive feature of Lakhovsky's creativity, according to contemporaries, is the ability to depict the stories of the Wanderers in the Impressionist style. The highlight of the exhibition is a canvas, one side of which is a picture of the "Galician types", and the purity of the exhibition is a landscape. Before the restoration, the artist's second work was hidden under a layer of mud, and it was discovered only recently. The canvas is placed in a special frame, allowing you to see both pictures at once.

Events

The Museum of Russian Impressionism was created for the purpose of cultural enlightenment of the inhabitants of the capital. In addition, it is intended to become a platform for direct communication of people who are keen on painting, with artists, sculptors, specialists in the field of art history, etc.

Various events are regularly organized in the museum on the territory of the former Bolshevik factory. For example, in the near future a lecture "Private Collections in the USSR" is scheduled. In addition, every weekend children 7-10 years old together with their parents are invited to a sightseeing tour, during which they are introduced to such concepts as "museum", "collector", etc.

The creators of the Museum of Impressionism believe that art should be accessible to all. To do this, they regularly organize excursions for hard of hearing people in Russian sign language, conducted by the historian Victor Palen.
