Mercantile. What is this quality and what is its use?

Acquiring some life experience and reading literary works, especially classical ones, any intelligent person sooner or later realizes that most people living on our planet love two things: material prosperity and idleness. Money gives freedom, and it consists mainly in the absence of the need to work hard and the opportunity to do something pleasant and cheerful.

In the public consciousness, a stereotype of a certain special feminine calculus is firmly entrenched, consisting in the desire to marry a rich man for sure. Is it possible to say about the commercialism that this is a sophisticated kind of prostitution? To answer this question, you should briefly immerse yourself in the behavior of the representatives of the animal world.

Even with a superficial study of the behavior of animals or birds, it is easy to see that the female of any biological species chooses to mate the most viable male, if she is given such a right. When the males decide this question among themselves, it goes into the plane of natural selection. In any case, the strongest right to reproduction is given to the strongest. It can better perform the functions of a getter and protection of offspring. Choosing a larger and more vigorous individual, the female exhibits some commercialism. What is this, if not a calculation for greater well-being in the future, or at least for the period of growing offspring?

In humans, everything happens about the same pattern, except that the selection criteria are different from those adopted in the animal world. After the civilization has mastered the commodity-money relations, the force and even the intellect have given way to the quantity of accumulated material values or their symbols. The right to inherit capital created the conditions for even weak males to have a certain attractiveness. Hebrew wisdom says: "Gold makes smart, gold makes beautiful." Now we can say about the commercialism that this completely natural quality in human society has become distorted and can negatively affect the genotype of the offspring.

However, women would not be women if they had not learned to solve this problem in ways that were accessible to them, even if they had deceived their officially registered male patrons who are not carriers of acceptable genes for them. According to statistics obtained in the US (it is unknown how, in truth, the way), about one in five men brings up children who are not from him. And the richer the society and the more wealthy heirs in it, so obviously there is more difference between motivations for marriage and fertilization. The smallest it in those countries where the process of initial accumulation of capital takes place and the amount of cash in the pocket of a man at least somehow corresponds to the degree of its enterprising or viability, and the mercantile nature of girls has a certain logical basis.

However, in this case, too, it does not do without the distortion of natural laws, because people, unlike animals, have moral values that are also transmitted as hereditary signs and in the process of education. When selecting "my man" many women, alas, are guided not by the principle of reasonable sufficiency, but by another criterion - "the more, the better". In terms of money. So, we can say about the commercialism that this quality is useful, but within reasonable limits, when it is not identical with greed, but is a simple concern for the possibility of growing a viable and healthy offspring (both physically and mentally).

And what about the mercantile nature of men? If you do not take into account this desire to ensure your own well-being at the expense of a rich dowry or alfuncism, this quality can be useful for the stronger sex. Choosing a beautiful woman, a man subconsciously strives to ensure that his children were healthy and happy, and the care that he will show to them, gave the maximum results. As a rule, representatives of the stronger sex are more often oriented to appearance than to other criteria, perhaps more important.
