Acute and chronic rhinopharyngitis, symptoms of the disease

With the passing of the summer and the onset of cold weather, colds become more frequent , one of which is rhinopharyngitis. Symptoms of this disease are known to every person. In childhood it occurs especially often.

What is rhinopharyngitis? Symptoms of the disease

Rinopharyngitis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the nasal and pharyngeal mucosa. Separately, rhinitis and pharyngitis are less common, usually from the patient you can hear complaints and on discharge from the nose and pain in the throat at the same time. Isolated disease of the nasal cavity or pharynx appears only when the stimulus is directly exposed to the mucous membrane. These irritants are: cold exposure, tobacco smoke, strong alcohol, thermally aggressive food (too hot or cold).

Causes of the disease: acute rhinopharyngitis occurs when exposed to pathogenic bacteria, viruses (influenza, respiratory and others). A predisposing factor may be hypothermia, impaired or imperfect immunity (especially in children), thermal or mechanical effects. Chronic rhinopharyngitis develops from acute, against a background of constant exposure to irritating factors.

Acute rhinopharyngitis, symptoms of the disease

The disease has an acute onset usually after exposure to one of the above factors. From the nasal passages there is a detachable mucous or purulent character, itching of the nose, sneezing. The timbre of the voice can change , there is a lacrimation, a sensation of perspiration and sore throat, especially with swallowing movements. Upon examination, the nasal mucosa and pharynx are hyperemic, with more severe forms, there may be a purulent plaque, pinpoint hemorrhages on the tonsils. The body temperature rises to a subfebrile condition. Due to swelling of the nasal mucosa and difficulty breathing, the headache may be disturbing. In adults, the general condition suffers insignificantly, perhaps mild ailment. Children, especially small ones, become capricious, crying, the disease is more severe. When making a diagnosis, you need to exclude angina.

Chronic rhinopharyngitis: symptoms of the disease

The chronic form has a prolonged course, is a consequence of an incomplete acute form, the presence of a constant infection in the sinuses of the nose and carious teeth. There are several types of chronic rhinopharyngitis: atrophic, catarrhal and hypertrophic.

A patient with a chronic atrophic form of the disease complains of unpleasant sensations in the throat, sadness, hoarseness of the voice. On examination, the mucous membrane is pale, thinned, excessively shiny.

In catarrhal and hypertrophic forms, complaints are pain and sore throat, sensation of foreign (foreign) body. Plentiful mucous or purulent discharge is noted from the nose and pharynx. The patient constantly clears his throat. When you change the position of the body in the morning, expectoration is especially strong, and even a vomitive reflex may arise . Tonsils enlarged, slightly hyperemic. Mucous membrane edematous, loose on tonsils. Enlargement of the lymph nodes along the posterior wall of the pharynx is called granulosa rhinopharyngitis, and the enlargement of lymphoid tissue on the side walls is called lateral.

Healing measures with rhinopharyngitis

Treatment is mostly local, with the use of antiseptics in the form of sprays or rinsing solutions (Hexoral, Stopangin, Bioparox and others). The nasal passages are well washed with salt water and sea water. In this case, there is a moisturizing effect on the mucous and pernicious effect on pathogenic microorganisms. Tonsils can be treated with Lugol solution or other iodine-containing drug. In particularly severe cases, antibiotics may be required.
