Mastic bitumen - the main waterproofing roofing material

Before proceeding directly to the description of the various types of mastic and its characteristics, I suggest first to get acquainted with the basic elements of buildings and structures where it can be used (roofs, walls, foundations, foundations, etc.). The basis is called soils, which are used for construction purposes; In other words, this is the place that contains the top layers of the soil and on which the construction will be carried out. The foundations are the lower, underground part of the building that is at a certain depth. Waterproofing of the foundation or foundation is carried out using mastic, waterproofing is done in places where the basement wall and foundation or the corner between the basement slab and the slab overlap.

The Importance of Roofing

But the main place where the mastic is used is the roof. It is indispensable for roofing works. The roof is called the enclosing part of the building, which protects the structure from the effects of the environment, and it is also a load-bearing element. Despite the diversity, most of them require special waterproofing works that relate to the roofing cycle, which in turn is an important part of any construction process.

As a waterproofing material , various substances can be used, but bitumen mastic is the most common of them. In fact, the mastic roof is a kind of waterproofing carpet that can contain from 2 to 4 layers of this material.

What is bituminous mastic ?

It is a mixture having the consistency of a thick paste, which consists of complex high-density polymeric materials . The sub is mastic bitumen. It is used for roofing works. Mastic bituminous is intended for both the device and the organization of the roof, and for its repair. It is a complex one-component bitumen-polymer composition, it is ready for use.

Application

Mastic bituminous waterproofing is used if the following is carried out:

  • The device of a roof.
  • Repair and restoration work (cracking, etc.).
  • Pouring of buttress seats, i. Such, in which there is a butt joint of vertical and horizontal structural elements, as well as various shaped details.
  • Reliable sealing (protection against penetration of air and water) of shaped building elements.
  • Waterproofing of metal structures.

As for direct application, bitumen roofing mastic can be applied in cases where its temperature is more than +15 degrees Celsius, and the ambient temperature is in the range of 10 to 50 degrees Celsius.

Often, it is already ready for use, but in some cases it is allowed to dilute it with gasoline or toluene, but with the condition that their share will not exceed 20% of the total weight of the material applied to the roof. Mastic is applied by means of a special wide construction spatula or by spraying.
