LED Filament Lamps: Overview, Types, Power and Feedback

Energy-saving technologies, which are used by engineers, and the popularity of these solutions among consumers have recently been the main trend in the lighting equipment market. Along with LED lamps, which are very common, there is an even more innovative option. This is a filament lamp.

These products are manufactured using unique technologies. A filament in a literal translation is nothing more than a filament. Manufacturers are sure that this innovation will replace the traditional lamas in retroswitches. At the same time, these bulbs, on the assurances of all the same manufacturers, are even more economical than LED solutions.

The device of a lamp of a lamp

At the heart of this product are simple but very effective and inexpensive technologies - the same is used in the production of screens for smartphones. Very small LEDs are placed on a special platform, which is the basis for them. In more expensive and technologically advanced models, artificial sapphire is used. Available models use a special, inexpensive and durable glass composition. The rod, which is a light source, has small dimensions - its diameter is no more than 1.5 mm, in length it is equal to 30 mm.

The substrate is absolutely transparent, which provides the most uniform light, which is directed in all directions. In terms of their capabilities and properties, the filament LED lamps really do resemble Illich 's lamps with tungsten filaments.

LEDs are interconnected in series and placed on a special rod. Often, on one miniaturized substrate, up to 28 diodes producing blue radiation are mounted. To give the lamp light a warmer shade, use a small amount of red LEDs. However, as for the total number of elements, they are always 28.

A rod with diodes is covered with a layer of a phosphor based on silicone. The power of one such filament is not more than 1.3 W. In the flask there can be several such rods - according to the power of the product - modern filament lamps have up to 16 such rods.

Gas efficiency

Although the filaments do not have a high power, they are very effective due to the special coating and gas, which is filled with the bulb inside. It must be said that these products can be harmful to humans - so, because of the use of a low-quality phosphor, a leak of blue radiation can occur, which causes irreparable harm to the retina. For this reason, it is worth buying a filament LED lamp from reliable manufacturers.

The gas, which is filled with a bulb inside, many brands keep in strict confidence. Most often helium is used as a filler or something else based on it. So, in the device of the lamp there is not provided at least some cooling. But this gas can easily cope with the absorption of heat, which are emitted by LEDs. Gas cooling in this case is very effective - during operation, the temperature of the LED reaches a maximum of 60 degrees.

Characteristics

The filament lamps are characterized by a standard bulb - the manufacturers call it A60. Such a flask provides a standard pear-shaped product. Round or spherical models are marked as A95 and differ in larger sizes.

The ruler of lamps on this technology from any manufacturers does not provide low-voltage versions. Products were created for standard parameters of household electrical networks.

If we compare the filament lamps with any other existing ones, and even with LEDs, even an amateur will notice that their characteristics and capabilities are much higher than those of conventional lamps. For each watt of energy consumed, the filament gives out more light.

In addition to more light, these products also form a pleasant and soft light flux. The eyes are very pleasant in this kind of lighting, and low power consumption is a serious advantage.

Characteristics of a lamp in a standard flask

The standard lamp has a power of 8 watts - it's not a little, in terms of power and brightness, the lamp's capabilities are equal to the 85 W incandescent bulbs. The glow temperature in these products is 2700 K, and the luminous flux is 980 L. The lamp gives 116-150 L of light per watt of energy, however it depends on the manufacturer.

For consumers, the service life of this unit is very important. Manufacturers claim that these lamps are designed for an average of 20,000 hours, but now the modern market offers models and with a long service life.

Lamp in a spherical flask: features

These models differ from the standard version only by the increased light flux. So, this figure can reach 1500 L. As for the socle, its diameter can be from 12 to 27 mm. These socles are marked E27.

Advantages and disadvantages

Like any product, filament lamps have their drawbacks and pluses. The advantages of these innovative solutions include their high compatibility with a variety of models of luminaires, which were originally created under an incandescent bulb. In addition, the buyer receives a product familiar to him - this makes the buying process more simple, from the psychological point of view.

High light output is also an important factor in favor of these products. There are no additional optical elements in the design. The light is directed to each side, and the wall of the bulb is completely transparent. The cost of products is available due to the fact that for production many brands use the existing capacities of factories, which previously produced incandescent lamps. In addition to conventional products, filament lamps are dimmable.

To the obvious minuses can be attributed only the fragility of the flask - it is made entirely of their glass and, of course, does not like strikes. Also a disadvantage can be considered the price for quality models, especially with the function of dimming - the design includes expensive drivers.

How much is this lamp

If you consider all the advantages that this device has, the cost of it should not be shocking for most consumers. For example, for domestic filament lamps - the price is quite democratic and starts at $ 4.

It was in 4 dollars that the Ukrainian brand Maxus evaluated its product - the lamp is an analog of a traditional lighting device with a power of 40 W. The Russian manufacturer "Lisma" offers 8 W lamps starting from $ 5. Import models are sold from 11 dollars, but these are budget options.

Brands

Today, there are several companies that manufacture similar lighting devices. Among them are well-known brands and not very much.

Osram

This manufacturer is the leader in lighting equipment sales. The German brand sells classic lamps using this technology, in the form of candles, spherical, decorative, reflex and dimmable.

By the power of the lamp start from the classic 3.2 W, the maximum is a 8W LED filament lamp.

"Ruds"

This is a domestic manufacturer. Devices differ almost completely absent pulsation, power from 6 to 8 watts. The base is standard - E27. The manufacturer declares that the service life of the product is 15 000 hours.

"Lisma"

This is a fairly successful and familiar company from Mordovia. It is known by high-quality LED lamps. The new LED filament lamp "Lisma" is assembled from quality components, the pulsation is very low, the standard power is from 6 to 8 watts. For each bulb the manufacturer gives a 2-year warranty.

Reviews

All those who have classical chandeliers would like to use new economical technologies with them. Previously, this was not available, but today this opportunity has appeared. People appreciated all the advantages that filament lamps give. Reviews about them are mostly positive. Many pay attention to the pleasant characteristics of light, their durability and affordable prices.
