Wedge anchor

For the through connection of hinged consoles, bearing beams, complex and heavy metal structures of different configurations with a base of strong concrete, natural stone and dense full-bricks, a wedge anchor is used. It is made in the form of a threaded stud made of metal with a cone-shaped shank and a movable cylindrical sleeve at one end and a nut and washer on the other. Fixation of the fastening element in the base is carried out by the friction of the clutch projections against the wall of the opening in the base material.

This connection is characterized by durability, reliability and relatively low cost of implementation, which is ensured by a low price of the fastening itself and saving time due to fast and simple installation. In addition, the wedge anchor has a high load-bearing capacity and is capable of withstanding significant loads without deformation.

To the disadvantages of such products is too strong impact on the base in the area of the spacer, so the wedge anchors can be installed only in a durable and dense material, in which there are no cracks, shells and other structural defects. When making a hole for the installation of wedge fasteners, exact dimensions must be observed, since a mismatch of diameters contributes to the occurrence of an excessively large or insufficient expansion pressure. This leads to a breakdown in the structure of the base material and destruction of the structure.

Special features of wedge mounting

To install the wedge anchor, it is necessary to pre-drill a hole of the appropriate diameter in the base base, clean it of dust and small particles of material, place the fasteners and hammer to the required depth with a hammer or sledgehammer. Then, on the protruding metal rod, the mounted structure is put on, and all the elements are fixed with a nut, which is tightened with a torque wrench. In this case, the shank is drawn into the coupling, and the wedge, unlocking its walls, securely anchors the anchor in the base. To prevent unscrewing of the nut during the operation of the structure, special products with a stop end are used.

Manufacturing technology

Wedge anchors are made from carbon and alloy steels of cold working, the choice of a certain brand depends on the area of application of the fasteners and the expected load. General purpose products are made of less durable metal, and for fixing elements that are subjected to considerable vibration, higher quality raw materials are used.

Some types of fasteners can combine in their design several types of steel. Since the wedge anchor is used mainly for mounting structures in unfavorable climatic conditions and exposed to moisture, it must be resistant to corrosion. To prevent it, the fastening elements are made of stainless steel, and products made of alloyed and carbon steel are subjected to additional galvanizing treatment . A reliable protective layer prevents the interaction of metal and moisture and prevents the appearance of rust, ensuring the reliability and durability of the wedge joint.
