Marvin was born on May 23, 1954 in the United States of America, in the small town of New Ark, near New Jersey. Hagler's childhood was very difficult. Mothers with children had to rent a tiny apartment, located in the old and prestigious part of the city.

After such a case, Marvin's mother decided to move to another city, in Brockton, Massachusetts, where her sister lived. It was here that the birth of a new legend of big boxing was born.

On the way to big sport

In 1969, Hagler Marvin decided to drop out of school, on this his education was over, and after a very short time, his first-born son Champ appeared. So, quite a teenager Marvin took responsibility for his underage girlfriend and their co-child. In order to somehow make ends meet, the future king of the ring moonlighted at various construction sites and even engaged in street theft. The latter, in his words, did not bring in a special income.

Life began to change radically, when one of the sixteen-year-old Marvin was noticed in the hall during the training with a pear. Technicality and a clear statement of his movements surprised trainer Goody Petralli, who later together with his brother Pat and brought Hagler to the professional level. So, in 1970, the teenager began regular training, which with each new occupation revealed more and more potential. After only three years, Marvin was already four successful fights, two of which ended in knockout, in addition, he was named the most technical among boxers.

The beginning of a professional career

Hagner began his professional career at the age of nineteen, by this time he already had fifty-six fights, among which only one defeat. To what weight category was Marvin Hagler? Patronelli's brothers, who were his coaches, tried in every possible way to achieve the champion's battle, but all their attempts did not bring any result. Hagner decided to sign a contract with the promotional company Bob Arum, who was not only a competent lawyer, but even at one time he worked in the presidential administration.

Marvin almost lost hope that one day he could fight for a world title. So, in 1974, in an interview, he said that the cause of all his failures is the color of his skin and the fact that he is left-handed.

The first battle for the title of world champion

Finally, all the long and desperate attempts to attract attention gave a result. The long-awaited meeting of the two boxers took place on April 6, 1987.
