What is a leer?

The birthplace of the word is Holland. Initially, the wire was called a tightly tensioned cable, along which you can move during bad weather conditions. Currently, such a fence not only provides security, but also carries a few more functions.

The paramount task is to ensure the safe descent and ascent of passengers on board the ship. Many are confused by the small height of the fence, but if a person slips, the leer can prevent it from falling.

Bad weather or sudden movements often lead to an increased risk that loose cargo will be overboard. And the presence of a guard railing will not allow this to happen.

Leer is also a significant space saving, because fastenings of modern accessories (spinning holder, table, etc.) for boats are designed for the presence of a pipe.

The standard initial product for the manufacture of a vertical guard railing element is the most robust construction: pipe, profile, channel, etc.

The simplest ship's rail is an ordinary cable connected to the boat by means of a holder. Application of this type is considered most suitable for those cases when everything depends on the mass, for example, if it is a sports yacht.

But a motor boat, a boat or a yacht is better equipped with a metal fence. The most common material is aluminum or stainless steel.

Homemade Leer

If the purchase of a professional player is very unsuitable at the moment, do not despair. This attribute can be produced independently. All you need is to buy a pipe, the bases for the racks and several fasteners. The necessary tools are a drill (to drill holes) and a grinder (to cut pipes).

Leer is a very important detail on the ship, so do not start working without a sketch. The most common size (if the ship's length does not exceed 7-8 meters) is a pipe, the diameter of which is 25.4 mm, less often 22 mm. In addition, it is necessary to purchase 2 types of fittings: one is needed to connect the pipes to each other, and the second - to fix the pipes to the hull of the vessel.

Kinds of rigging

"Ship rigging" is a word combination that can be used for any tackle or weapon of a separate mast, sail management or any lifting operation.

Stationary rigging on a large ship is provided with a steel and iron rope with a long service life, and on a small one - with synthetic or resinous hemp. Ship rigging also involves the use of a chain with short links, as it provides much greater flexibility.

For a mobile variant, a hemp, flexible steel or synthetic cable is suitable. A slings or chain can be used together with a lifting device (elevator, crane, elevator or conveyor), which is necessary to lift a large load.

Rescue means

When entering the sea, one must adhere to the immutable law, whatever happens, the most important thing is to save human life. Rescue means used on a ship can be individual or group.

Individual rescue bib and waistcoat in accordance with the instruction must be calculated for each member of the team and for each passenger.

To the group means, first of all, any lifeboat. For a very long period it was an open rowing boat. At present, wood, metal or plastic is used for its manufacture. A modern lifeboat has several sealed air galvanized boxes, which require corrosion-resistant sheet steel.

Large lifeboats usually have engines, and the latest models are even equipped with enclosed spaces for the victims.

The closed type of this device is supposed to have a hatch with a waterproof cover. In such a boat, a person is not afraid of fire, smoke, high temperature, or even a surface covered with burning liquid fuel.

A lifeboat for a tanker must necessarily be a motor boat, and its speed can not be less than 6 knots. Lifting and descent is carried out by means of a gravity davit equipped with an electric winch.

The construction of the railing fence

The site where the cable will be located, should be determined even during the design of the vessel. The characteristics and design of the guard railing are described in detail in GOST 5.2124-81.

The height of such a structure should be at least 110 cm. For joining racks it is best to use longitudinal webs or a special mesh.

The enclosure must be continuous and encircling the entire deck. The gap can only be made if special equipment is to be installed. Place of exit / entrance of passengers must be equipped with a removable chain guard.

Mounting of rails should be carried out in such a way that between them and the edge of the bead was no more than 45 cm.

About height and safety

A reliable guardrail should perform many functions, but the most important thing is that the normative load is observed and human security ensured. So, the rail of the fence should not be afraid of a load of 400 N / m.

If it is a safety modification, the permissible normative load is increased to 700 N / m.

The value of the height of the protective fencing varies depending on what the scope of application and what materials were used in doing so.

Without a ladder, convenient and safe entry of people into and out of the ship is impossible, as well as access to a room or workplace located on any deck.

Storm rails are needed to ensure the safe movement of personnel during a storm overboard.
