It was brought to Europe from North America in the seventeenth century and has now gained wide popularity.
Kampsis: planting and care. Basics
This plant climbs on vertical surfaces with the aid of climbing shoots and air roots. Young stems are green, with age they become light brown in the process of lignification, and they also become covered with scaly bark. The plant kamppsis awakens in the spring late enough, because of this, its shoots are largely protected from damage by frost. It begins to grow intensively only at the end of May. By the beginning of June, a lush green foliage has formed. The leaves are large (up to forty centimeters in length).
The main ornament that makes gardeners appreciate kampsis (which sometimes is associated with some difficulties) is its beautiful tubular flowers. They are red, yellow and orange, expand to the top, have the form of a cone from six to ten centimeters long and up to five centimeters in diameter. You can admire them from the middle of summer to September. Flowers are collected in the corymbose inflorescences.
Kampsis: planting and care, difficulties and problems
Do not advise planting the plant at the windows - the flowers attract a huge number of insects (especially unpleasant wasps and hornets), which can fly into the premises and cause a lot of inconvenience. The air roots of the campsis, by which it clings to the wall, can penetrate between the bricks and damage the integrity of the masonry. Therefore, if you need to remove some of the vine from your house, be prepared for the fact that part of the frozen solution will be removed along with the tenacious roots. The wall after this will need reconstruction. The root growth of the campsis can also cause some inconvenience to the beginning gardener. Lines appear in a very large amount, and in order for your site not to become overgrown, you will need to regularly remove them.
