It smells in the car's interior. The smell of petrol in the car: the main reasons for its appearance

Each driver saves his vehicle and treats any malfunctions with particular attention. Often, the cause of concern can be an unpleasant smell in the car. If it smells of gasoline or fire, then this is the first sign of malfunction of some vehicle systems. So why do you get an unpleasant smell and how to eliminate it?

The smell of burning

When driving a private car, many drivers note the smell of burning in the cabin. There are many reasons for this phenomenon. Some of them can be eliminated on their own, and some - only with the help of specialists.

  1. The smell of burning in the car can appear from the street. In this case, recycling can be included. Also, there is a possibility that the cabin filter just fell into disrepair.
  2. An unpleasant smell can occur as a result of the heating of dirt, which is attached to the engine or to the exhaust system. A similar phenomenon occurs with almost every machine. This is especially true in the off-season, when the roads slush. Part of the problem can be solved by washing the engine. But to get rid of the adhered mud on the exhaust is unlikely to succeed. If even after the engine has been washed, there is a smell in the car's interior, then in this case only recirculation will help. The whole problem in the design features of the vehicle.
  3. Often, an unpleasant smell in the passenger compartment occurs as a result of oil leakage from the engine. During operation, the liquid burns. A common problem lies in the lining of the valve cover. In some cases, it is simple enough to replace it.
  4. Also, the cause of the smell of burning can be some problems with electronics. This is a serious enough problem that can lead to a fire. Therefore, it is worthwhile to contact the specialists for a full vehicle inspection and troubleshooting.
  5. Another reason for the smell of burning in the passenger compartment is a violation of the integrity of the gasket located between the muffler and the intake pipe. In this case, its replacement is required.

Features of the fuel system

Virtually any fuel cell can become unusable. As a result, there will be an unpleasant smell. Inspection of the machine should start with weaknesses.

On the entire length of the body are elements of the fuel system. This is done for greater security. Thus, the fuel tank is at a safe distance from the engine, which can be heated up during operation. In addition, the motor of the vehicle is entangled by electrical wiring, through which current flows into various compartments. Of course, it's no secret that the fuel tank is that part of the machine that represents a potential danger.

In the engine compartment, as a rule, there is a minimum of gasoline, which is necessary for normal operation of the car. However, such a layout of the system has some disadvantages:

  1. The fuel line is too long.
  2. The presence of compounds of various types.

In most cases, more precisely in 90 percent of all, fuel leakage occurs precisely from a gas tank or from its elements, which are fixed directly on it or are located nearby. But there is more fuel here.

Problem search: fuel system

Does it smell gasoline in the car? Then start looking for a problem with a gas tank. Especially if the leakage of fuel became obvious. The fuel tank, as is known, consists of several elements, which are interconnected by various devices: flanges, composite structures, welded seams and so on.

Periodically check the tightness and condition of the tapes. They serve as a fastener. By means of tapes the gas tank is fixed to the body. Inspection should also be carried out for preventive purposes.

It is worth remembering that there can be up to a hundred liters of gasoline in the fuel tank. As a rule, such an amount has a lot of weight. Most often, the tank is suspended to the body, very rarely placed in the trunk. The fixture is a steel flexible strip that passes under the bottom of the part. To the body such belts are attracted by powerful bolts. Such a fastening should ensure the immobility of the fuel tank. However, with strong shocks, the part still rubs against the bodywork. Of course, many manufacturers provide this. Therefore, between the body wall and the tank, special gaskets are installed. Over time, these products are abraded. As a result, the fuel tank acquires at least insignificant, but still mobility, which can lead to the formation of a small hole. As a result, there is a smell of gasoline in the cabin.

In addition, it is worth remembering a phenomenon such as corrosion. The fuel tank can lose weight under its influence. This often occurs in old vehicles.

How to solve a problem?

If the fuel tank is leaky or worn, it must be replaced. You can also try to avoid such trouble. As a preventive measure, you should inspect the fuel system as often as possible, and also check the tightness and condition of the belts with which the gas tank is attached to the body.

Tank filler cap

The weak point of the fuel tank is the filler neck. Problems with this part can lead to the smell of petrol in the cabin. The filler neck can be welded or screwed to the fuel tank using a rubber gasket. The last option of fixation is considered more reliable. In the event of a fault, the welded joint can quickly break down. But the gasket and the flange will last for a long time.

If you smell gasoline in the car, then first of all you need to inspect the welded joint. If there are defects, they should be eliminated.

Rubber hoses

An unpleasant smell in the car can be caused by a violation of the integrity of the rubber hoses connecting the gasoline pump. They serve as a transitional link between the fuel main and the tank. When moving, the picks may be broken off from the base or broken. If this problem is found, the damaged parts must be replaced.

The cover of the hatch of the gasoline pump

The car salon should not only be clean, it should smell nice. However, this does not always work. There is one more weakness in the fuel system - the lid, which holds a gasoline pump with fuel level sensors in one module inside the tank. This part is usually fastened with screws that are threaded into holes drilled along the contour. Under this cover is a rubber gasket, which is often a weak link. This part is constantly affected by fumes of fuel. After a certain time, it simply collapses. As a result, the tightness is broken, so it smells in the cabin with fuel.

Valve of fuel tank ventilation system

The body of this part is made of plastic. The hoses are connected to the nozzles, and with their help the fuel vapors are transferred to a special capacity of the adsorber. In this case, plastic sleeves may break. How to get rid of an unpleasant smell? It is necessary to replace the entire valve.

If the fuel system is OK

If after inspecting the details of the vehicle and eliminating all the problems still smells in the car's interior with gasoline, then it is worthwhile to inspect all the rugs, trunk and seats for fuel stains. You can neutralize them yourself using a soap dispenser. If this does not help to get rid of the unpleasant odor, you can resort to other methods.

Regular coffee

Removing the smell in the car can sometimes be a challenge. For this purpose, you can use plain ground coffee. Enough to fill them with stains from gasoline. Why exactly ground coffee?

This product contains a large number of oils that absorb other odors. Of course, you can use freeze-dried coffee. Spotted spot should be left for seven days, and then washed again. It is not necessary to use an expensive product. You can buy a packet of cheap coffee.

Baking soda

This product is found in the kitchen of every mistress. Thanks to food soda, the car salon can be brought in perfect order. After all, this powder allows not only to clean hard-to-remove stains, but also to remove an unpleasant odor. Unlike coffee soda, you can process the stain for no longer than a day. It is enough to sprinkle this product with a dirty place and after 24 hours simply vacuum it. The smell after that should disappear.

Dishwashing liquid

Gasoline is a chemical oily product. To eliminate stains of fuel, you can try to act on them with a dishwashing detergent. After all, these fluids have a special chemical composition, which allows you to quickly break down fats. In addition, the dishwashing detergent necessarily contains flavors and perfumes that help to get rid of the unpleasant odor.

It is enough to pour a little liquid on the stain from the fuel and wait until it is absorbed, and then gently rinse with water. If the pollution is large, then you need to remove it in several approaches.

Finally

In that part of the fuel system, which is located under the hood of the vehicle, there are many elements that at any time can become the main sources of unpleasant odor. Here it is necessary to include the places where the fastening to the hose filter takes place. Of course, under the hood to find the cause is much easier. After all, all the details will be in sight. Knowledge of the weak points of the fuel system will quickly fix the problem. All the best!
