Intracranial pressure in infants: the causes of its increase, symptoms and treatment

To date, very often babies with increased pressure inside the skull are born. Naturally, hearing such a wording from the mouth of a doctor, parents are immediately frightened. However, not everything is as frightening as it seems, although it is serious to approach this diagnosis.

Intracranial pressure in infants may increase due to hypoxia of the fetus or maternal diseases during pregnancy, asphyxia in the baby at the time of birth, infections of different etymologies, and also due to any injuries of the child while passing through the birth canal.

Intracranial pressure in infants can manifest themselves in different ways: frequent regurgitation and vomiting, increased sensitivity to pain, anxiety, tremor and convulsions. The most obvious sign of the disease is the excessive tension of the skin of the fontanel and its bulging, as well as the divergence of the seams between the bones of the skull. During the examination of the baby, the doctor can determine the disease by measuring the circumference of the head. It should be noted that ICP can be increased and in older children. In doing so, they complain of a head spin, nausea.

Elevated cranial pressure is also determined by special analyzes: computed tomography, neurosonography, MRI, lumbar puncture. All these activities are aimed at finding out how well the brain works, what the blood circulation inside the skull is, and they also determine other factors that could cause the problem to appear. In addition, X-rays and ophthalmoscopy are performed.

Intracranial pressure in infants can be treated at home. Naturally, you need to listen to the advice of doctors, but do not act with fanaticism. Most often, neurologists assign the baby constant communication with parents, changing the regime of the day, swimming, therapeutic massage. Of course, if the disease is too serious, then you can not do without appropriate drugs. They contribute to a better outflow of fluid from the brain. In addition to these medicines, the child can give herbal decoctions. For example, an excellent means is a decoction of celery, parsley or tea from cumin. These fluids have an excellent diuretic effect.

Intracranial pressure in infants should be treated with certain vascular drugs that improve the blood flow of the brain and feed it with oxygen. However, one should choose those medicines that will not have a harmful effect on the children's organism as a whole. There are cases when surgical intervention is inevitable.

If intracranial pressure in a baby is detected early enough, it can be successfully cured without serious consequences for the body. The most important aspect of therapy is full psychological and emotional support of the baby from parents and close people. Mom and Dad should be sure of their victory over the disease and should not show anything that their child is not like everyone else. Both parents and the kid should perceive everything happening only from a positive point of view. Only in this case the disease will go away without a trace.
