How to plant asters on seedlings and get a wonderful flower garden?

On September 1, almost all the yards bloom with asters - this is a favorite "school" flower. It is easy to conclude that it refers to plants that bloom in autumn. However, there are varieties that start to please the flowers even in July, that is, a couple of months earlier. Fans of asters can pick up such an assortment of plants that will allow them to admire them for most of the summer and virtually the entire fall. If, of course, the gardener will be able to properly plant and grow them. As a rule, there are no problems with the last item, but the first one should be considered more closely.

Which way to choose?

All plants can be planted in two ways, so you must clearly decide how to plant asters - on seedlings or seeds in the ground. The first method is the most relevant, if the source material is small. For example, you are interested in a rare or expensive variety. Then over each seed you have to shake and make every effort to improve germination. If the seeds are enough, it's easier and less difficult to sow the astered beds. Of course, not all the seeds will sprout, but you will save time and energy. When choosing this variant of planting, know that you can sow both in spring and in autumn. In the latter case, the density of seeding should be higher. If the planting is too thick, you can always transplant the flowers to another place, but if the flower bed turns out to be "bald", you will have to buy seeds or seedlings. In the spring, it may be necessary to cover the shoots from possible nocturnal frosts with film, but as soon as the temperature stabilizes, the shelter needs to be removed altogether.

When to plant

But suppose you miraculously got the seeds of a rare plant, and there is nothing left to do but plant an astra on the seedlings. The main thing is to do it on time. Most seed packets indicate the time of disembarkation, but it must be remembered that climatic features are inherent in all regions, and that which is effective in the southern can ruin plantings in the northern. An approximate landmark may be the time that a plant needs in order to start germs, settle down and begin to bloom. It will take about three months. From this and proceed. Before planting an astra on seedlings, ensure the possibility of temperature control - on it depends not only the germination of seeds, but also their survival. Before the emergence of sprouts, the "degree" should be not lower than 20 о С, and with their appearance it should be reduced to 16 о С.

Proper capacities and correct "filling"

We proceed from the fact that you will not grow a seedling in a greenhouse, but at home, in a window sill. Boxes must correspond to the size of the window sills (meaning the length and width) and be at least 10 cm deep. They need to be filled with a mixture of peat (as an option - humus) and turf in a ratio of 1: 3. To ensure that the seedling of flowers was healthy and rose in harmony, the grooves are made to a depth of 1 cm and with a distance between them not less than 8 cm. In the furrows lay the seeds, cover with soil and water. For better germination, the boxes are covered with polyethylene or glass. In this case, too, the temperature is too vigilant to monitor, as the effect of the greenhouse is preserved. The question arises as to how to plant asters on seedlings? It seems to be quite simple, but why do most growers prefer a simple seed sowing? Because they are afraid of diving. You can do without it, but then you will get plants with a fairly weak root system, so with the advent of a couple of these leaves, the seedlings are transplanted into separate cups.

Technical details

There are tricks that will help you grow luxurious asters. Seedlings are planted in a flat land, for this it is enough only to crush it. No pits, no hillocks should not be! In the box or pot, the ground must be at least a centimeter below the sides.

Sprinkle seeds with soil better through a sieve - so it falls more evenly and does not put pressure on the seeds. A layer of substrate or vermiculite thick should be somewhere in half a centimeter.

Water the seedlings very carefully, not blurring the ground. And at first it is better to use a nebulizer.

There will be shoots - work them hardening. To do this, take off the shelter daily from the landing boxes: first for a while, but every day, increase the time that the seedlings will hold without an impromptu greenhouse.

During the first picking, the spine (it usually grows one, but of considerable length) is better shortened - so the seedling will be stronger, more viable and with a branched root system.

An ancient way to grow gorgeous asters

These flowers were grown by gardeners many hundreds of years ago, so even then there were secrets, under which the seedlings of asters (photo you can see above) turned out lush, firm and gave great double flowers. The essence lies in multiple transplants (pickings). And they are held until the moment of bud formation. The basic rule is a transplant in the evening, when the sun is already setting. The first picking is done no later than the third day after the shoots. A couple of weeks after this the seedlings were transplanted to a new location, and hardly the asters took root, they were again moved to another bed. The process of "moving" stopped only when flowers appeared buds. With their formation, the flowers moved to a permanent place. Usually it was a flower bed for flowering plants. As a result of the nomadic way of life, the asters bloomed abundantly, the heads turned out to be very large, and the flowers themselves were "terry". Some gardeners checked - it works!
