Hemangioma of the spine is a dangerous disease

In vertebrology, the spinal hemangioma is the most common disease. This pathology is difficult to determine visually, because it often has a subclinical nature. Hemangioma of the spine is a benign tumor that affects its different parts (most often the lower thoracic and middle chest regions). These neoplasms are localized in the cartilaginous space of the spine. According to statistical studies, this pathology occurs in 10% of the population. Hemangioma of the spine is predominantly recorded in adult women.

In most cases (about 80%), hemangioma affects the sixth thoracic vertebra. The lumbar spine is the second most common in the frequency of lesions. The defeat of the sacral and cervical spine with these neoplasms is about 1%.

Given the histological picture, the hemangiomas of the spine are classified into capillary, cavernous, racemate and mixed. Capillary hemangioma consists of a set of hemangiomas of thin capillaries, which intertwine and are arranged in several spheres. Such tumors practically never operate, they develop without visible clinical signs. Cavernous neoplasms consist of a multitude of cavities of varying size and shape. Such cavities are separated by thin-walled partitions, consisting of connective tissue. Racematous - characterized by the formation of a conglomerate, which consists of arterial and venous vessels. Well, finally, mixed-type hemangiomas are formed with the participation of capillaries, large vessels and cavernous cavities.

Hemangioma of the spine rarely appears with characteristic clinical signs. However, sometimes (about 10-15% of cases) the process of the development of the disease occurs with a pronounced clinic, which is accompanied by a severe pain syndrome in the paravertebral area. In the process of hemangioma development, bone trabeculae are destroyed, which leads to a decrease in bone strength.

Diagnosis of the disease is carried out using X-ray, magnetic resonance and computed tomography.

Official medicine uses several ways to treat this disease: radiation therapy, embolization, puncture vertebroplasty, alcohol and surgical intervention. For many years the surgical method remained the main one in the treatment of hemangiomas. The method is based on the removal of the soft tissue component of the tumor and partial resection of the bone affected by the neoplasm. Since the vascularization of such tumors is extremely high, very often such operations were accompanied by profuse, profuse bleeding. The amount of blood loss sometimes reached up to 4 liters, with a mortality rate of up to 25%.

In the early 30-ies of the last century, a more effective method of treating hemangiomas - radiation therapy - was proposed. Thanks to the use of X-ray therapy, the structure of the soft tissue component of the tumor changes. In this case, the neoplasm is fibrolized and scarred. For today, this method is not practically used because of significant exposure of the patient's body. The effectiveness of this therapy is about 85-88%.

Alcoholation with hemangiomas is carried out using 96% ethanol, due to which the sclerosis of tumors occurs.

Hemangioma of the spine, contraindications has such: exercise, manual therapy, massage, because all these methods can trigger a fracture. It should be borne in mind that osteoporosis also increases the likelihood of fracture. Patients diagnosed with hemangioma of the spine are not recommended to use folk remedies, these methods are ineffective, since the tumor is in a remote location.
