Gothic manor of Count Shcherbatov: history and modern photos

Many miracles can be seen on Russian soil. Sufficient in our country attractions, which are not written in tourist guides. Did you know that in Odintsovo district of the Moscow region you can see a real Gothic castle with partially preserved interiors? What is remarkable about the estate of Count Shcherbatov, located near the village of Vasilevsky Odintsovo district of the Moscow region, and what is its history?

Early history of Vasilievsky

The land belonging to the modern Odintsovo district in the XIV-XV centuries belonged to the Zvenigorod principality. The village of Vasilievskoye, near which the manor is located, was first mentioned in the annals of 1498. Originally it belonged to the Moscow Simonov Monastery, in the 15th century it was already mentioned as a palace palace. In 1619, the first mention of the Resurrection Church, built in this village, appears. The village itself becomes patrimonial domain and is divided between five Cossack atamans. But very soon the land is again transferred to the monastery, this time Novo-Spassky. Further, the Russian farmstead repeats the fate of many other estates. For a variety of achievements of the land handed to someone from the approximate ruling king, but then, after the change of power, the new king takes possession and transfers to someone from his favorites. Thus, the village and the manor land changed many owners.

The new manor of Count Scherbatov

Since 1764 the estate belongs to Yakovlev. Ivan Alekseevich, the father of AI Herzen, is engaged in rebuilding the master's house and takes it to the other side of the river, where there was a small village of Marino. After the death of the owner of the estate was inherited by his nephew, who quickly sold it. In 1845, the land is transferred to the ownership of Nikolai Grigorievich Shcherbatov, who was a major general of the cavalry and personally participated in the battle of Borodino. After his death, the standard Russian estate passes to his son - Alexander Grigorievich. The new owner takes Olga Princess Olga Alexandrovna Stroganov, and two years after the marriage begins to build a new house. Style - neo-Gothic, chief architect - Peter Samoilovich Boytsov, who already had time to become famous for the creation of majestic castles. It is believed that several objects were ordered by Count Shcherbatov. The manor, the underground under it, farm buildings and a well-maintained park with fountains and flower beds - it was all erected.

Prince Shcherbatov and his family

After graduating from St. Petersburg University, Alexander Grigoryevich worked as an authorized Red Cross during the Russo-Turkish War, was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th degree for combat feats. During the First World War Shcherbatov joined the founders of the "Russian Union of Trade and Industry". At the same time, Alexander Grigorievich, with the support of his wife, organizes the transportation of the wounded by launching a special "sanitary train" using exclusively personal means. Also, the Shcherbatovs open a hospital and organize an orphanage for children whose parents died in the name of the Motherland. The eldest son of the prince's couple also participated in military operations (in the Russo-Japanese War) in the rank of midshipman. In 1915, terrible news arrived from St. Petersburg: Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Shcherbatov, the first-born of Alexander Grigorievich, died in St. Petersburg. The father did not survive him a lot. Olga Alexandrovna buried her family near the village of Maryino and rebuilt a church at the burial site, which she wanted to consecrate in honor of Alexander Nevsky, the patron saint of the deceased. However, it was not possible to implement this plan because of the events of 1917. Olga Alexandrovna managed to leave Russia forever, taking with her some of the valuable things.

Manor of Count Shcherbatov: photo and description

During its dawn the manor house with turrets was richly trimmed inside and surrounded around an exotic garden. There were plants brought from India and other countries, roe deer and hand chamois roamed freely on the territory. Olga Aleksandrovna Shcherbatova managed to take all the really valuable things from her estate before her immigration. However, furniture and art were plundered during the revolution of 1917. But at the same time the house itself did not suffer too much. Many historians attribute this fact to the respectful attitude of the peasants to the princely family, who has been doing charity all his life. Later in the Gothic castle there was a rest house and a sanatorium for patients with cardiovascular diseases. Visited him, even VI Lenin, in memory of what appeared a memorial tablet. After the collapse of the USSR, the health facility was abandoned and stood for several decades without major repairs and security. But, despite this, the facade and bearing walls have been preserved quite well.

Gothic castle today

The estate of Count Shcherbatov could well be added to the list of attractions that disappeared from the face of the earth and collapsed naturally. However, the object has gained enough popularity among fans of non-standard tourism and visits to abandoned palaces. And just recently, tourists who decided to inspect this place were amazed - the building is being restored. In the empty window openings new glass and frames are installed, the facade is painted, the roof is repaired. It is possible that very soon the estate of Count Shcherbatov will appear before us in its renewed form and survive the second period of prosperity. However, there is no official information about the purpose of the restoration and what will be inside the renovated building.
