Oil consumption in the engine. Six Reasons

It is hardly possible to find a motorist who would not worry about the increased oil consumption. Particularly offensive when it happens with a new engine. Here are the most common reasons for the oil consumption in the engine.

1. Excessive crankcase pressure

A breakthrough of gases is typical for all engines. Because of the high pressure, the combustion gases do not fall into the piston rings, but into the crankcase of the engine. If, due to the wear of valves, rings and pistons, gas breakthrough exceeds the standard value, a very high pressure arises in the crankcase of the motor , and the oil has to be pushed through the seals. A good example is the sealing of the valves' pins, testing too high a load under high pressure. This leads to the fact that the oil consumption in the engine greatly increases.

2. Incorrect cylinder head assembly

If this part is not correctly installed, the elements may become skewed. As a result, in the vicinity of the combustion chamber, unsealed areas are formed, blocking the path to the oil circuit. To prevent skewing, you must follow the sequence in the tightening procedure, as well as the angle of screwing.

3. Defective engine oil

When using unsuitable or low-quality oil grades, it is impossible to ensure reliable operation of the engine in all modes. For example, the wear of the motor increases with cold start, high-temperature operating modes, etc. The oil must exactly correspond to the requirements of the machine manufacturer. And both in terms of performance and viscosity.

4. Depreciation of fuel pump ( high-pressure fuel pumps )

In 25% of cases, a large oil consumption in the engine is due to the wear of the in-line injection pump. Lubrication of the details of the injection pump is carried out through the corresponding motor circuit. If the components of the injection pump are worn out, during operation of the pistons, the oil can enter the working area of the pump. Here it mixes with the diesel fuel and gets into the combustion chamber. To reduce oil consumption in the engine, it is required to regularly check in-line injection pumps, especially in diesel engines.

5. Injection of cylinders

On the skew of the cylinders indicates an uneven spot of contact with individual places of the dry acting sleeve of the cylinder. If there are uneven spots on the outer wall of the cylinder liner, then this is a clear sign of its skewing. As a consequence - the piston rings can not provide the proper level of sealing, and the oil flows into the combustion chamber. In addition, the pressure in the crankcase of the motor increases. Possible causes of skewing include: incorrect tightening of bolts, contact corrosion, clogging of the cooling system, etc. Correct the skew, and the oil consumption in the engine will be significantly reduced.

6. Irregular service

If the motor maintenance period prescribed by the manufacturer is not observed, the contaminated oil will always be present in it. As the additive package is consumed during operation, there is a risk of wear. To avoid breakage, more frequent oil refilling is required.
