Tuimsky Failure (Khakassia): a tourist object of technogenic origin

The Tuim fault (Khakassia) is a hollow surrounded by steep mountain walls, whose height reaches 125 meters. This tourist site has anthropogenic origin.

The Tuimian failure (Khakassia): history until the middle of the 20th century

The presence of mineral deposits near the village of Tuim first became known at the beginning of the last century. Opened by their French engineer De Larue. He had 4 daughters, and he named each of the deposits by the name of one of them: Julia, Daria, Lydia, Theresa.

The thirties were marked by the organization of the association "Tuim-tungsten", which was engaged in the extraction of copper, lead, gold, tungsten, molybdenum and iron.

"Tuimlag", formed before the war, is mentioned by Solzhenitsyn in his famous work "The Gulag Archipelago". Memoirs of local old-timers also confirm that in the late thirties political prisoners were held here who extracted molybdenum from the mine and were engaged in its processing at the concentrator.

During the Great Patriotic War, the tungsten-tungsten obtained in Tuim was used as an additive to alloy steel, which was the material used to fabricate T-34 tanks.

Mine

The mine on the site of the failure began to work in 1953. Works underground were conducted mainly with the help of jackhammers. Also underground explosions were practiced. They led to a gradual subsidence of the mountain.

The export of ore was carried out on trolleys, then the extracted minerals were sent to the factory. Its performance by the standards of that time was quite high: 500,000 tons per month.

Education failure

In the 1950s livestock began to disappear among the inhabitants of the village of Tuim. It was during the search that a large number of breaks and displacements in the mountain were discovered.

In 1954, the formation of a failure began to take shape. The diameter of the initial depressions was about 6 m, and by 1961 reached 60-70 m.

In 1974, mining operations were discontinued, as a number of safety violations were identified. According to rough estimates, 140,000 tons of copper remained in the bowels.

In 1991, in those parts, there was a small earthquake, which caused the collapse of a part of the ground. As a result, the Tuim Failure (Khakassia) was formed, the diameter of which at the moment is more than 300 meters, with this gradually increasing.

In 1996, about the Tuimsky failure, they began talking after Yuri Senkevich dedicated one of the TV program "The Travelers Club" to this unusual place. Already in the 2000s, the "Fear Factor" was filmed there.

Tuimsky Failure (Khakassia): how to reach

It is located at a distance of 190 km from the city of Abakan.

If you leave Lake Shira, then you need to move to the village of the same name, past the railway station, in the direction of the village of Tuim. All the distance to the place is about 20 kilometers.

Along the way there is an interesting attraction, which is worth paying attention to. On the 9th km of the road, right on the rocky spur, there is a burial-cult monument, which is an echo of Okunev's culture. He is called Thuim-ring. In the central part there are funerary plates, under which a female priestess and two children are buried. On the line of the circle there are 4 huge stones that mark the directions of the four directions of the world. To the east of the burial place is laid a symbolic road of small width, it is bordered by several stones. This unique monument is somewhat reminiscent of the English Stonehenge, although its size is not so large. The spirit and mysterious energy of this ancient burial place, like an invisible veil, covers all the surrounding space.

Having entered Tuim village, at the first large fork, you need to turn right. Before you will appear the ruins of the concentrating factory. They need to go to them. Then you need to move across the railway crossing, and then turn left. A few minutes later there will be another turn left, in front of which there is a sign with the inscription "Failure". If you travel by car, you can safely turn. But if the car is heavy, it is better to go straight for safety two more kilometers, to the entrance to the tunnel.

As soon as the Tuim Failure (Khakassia) becomes visible, the first thing that strikes the imagination is the height of the mountains. Then, when the gaze turns downward, the blue-green water of the lake at the bottom of the artificial crater becomes visible.

In the vertical rocky walls of the dip, one can examine the holes leading to the tunnels along which copper was transported on the trolleys.

Tourism

If you decide to go to the Touma Failure (Khakassia), do not forget about security measures. Its walls are very unreliable and often crumble. Therefore, do not go close to the edge.

The last serious collapse occurred in November 2010. It is better to use the observation deck, from which the whole panorama of the failure is visible.

The Tuim failure (photo below) is a very popular tourist destination.

This miracle, which is half created by the hands of man, and half by nature, is really worth it to visit. For extreme sports, a very dangerous entertainment is offered - a jump from the tartar, and diving enthusiasts can try to swim to the unexplored bottom of the lake. So far, no one has succeeded.
