Scherbatov (count): biography, family

Counts Scherbatov: this name is found in the Russian chronicles for several hundred years. The oldest branch of this genus is derived from the Novgorod-Seversky governor. In the annals of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, servicemen with the name Shcherbatov are often mentioned. Count with the same name also lived in the Orel province, however, already in the middle of the XVIII century.

A lot of branches of this ancient family do not allow us to designate one ancestor. Most likely, the emergence and development of this noble family took place simultaneously in several places, and everywhere the representatives of this family were distinguished by their education and economy. An example of such hereditary chastity can be the Shcherbatov estate in the Kharkov region.

The Shcherbatov estate in Kharkov

In the annals of the Kharkov province in 1777 the surname Shcherbatov appears. Count, or rather, Prince Alexei Petrovich, married Elizaveta Mikhailovna of the Gendrikov family and received a dowry in a small town of Tarny near Sumy. The farm of the representatives of this family was exemplary - advanced methods of farming were used, which made it possible to significantly improve the yield of land. How much later Scherbatov wrote in his memoirs, the Shcherbatov not only established agriculture, but also sent their wealth to create a small resort area.

The Shchebbatova

Healing waters of the mineral springs of the Kharkov province have long been famous for their beneficial influence - the Shcherbatov brothers on their lands have built a hydropathic and boarding house for patients suffering from skin diseases. There came to treat not only Russian citizens, but also residents of European countries. The last owners of the estate were Prince Boris Sergeevich and his wife Anna Nikolayevna, from the Buturlin family. The landlady of the estate was distinguished by high education and excellent taste - her pen belongs to the well-known in art critics work on portraits of Russian painters.

Moscow Shcherbatov

Another well-known trace of Count Shcherbatov left in the suburbs. Known falconers and scribes with this name, the Shcherbatovs flashed in the lists of the apostles and the governor of the principality of Moscow. Under any tsars, they enjoyed honor and respect, served the tsar and the Fatherland firmly, were not seen either in distemper or in disobedience. And for loyalty, they were awarded villages and estates.

And now you can find the ruins of the manor in the village. Vasilievsky, which once owned Shcherbatov. The count became the owner of this estate in 1845. For many hundreds of years this village and the lands around it were owned by the Novo-Spassky monastery. After the sequestration of the land, the village moved to the state administration, from which the king's favorites were granted. One of the owners, the deacon of the Ukrainians, at his own expense built the Resurrection Church to the present day.

The Vasilievsky estate

Constantly passing from hand to hand, the estate gradually fell into decay. For some time he owned Ivan Alekseevich Yakovlev - the father of the famous revolutionary AI. Herzen. He transferred the old manor to a new place. New buildings rose on the steep right bank of the river, in place, long since bears the name of Maryina hill. Herzen often visited the estate and admired his grace and magnificent panorama. But the successor of Yakovlev - a cousin of the great revolutionary - the estate was simply wasted - the magnificent manor went for card debts. So the owner of Vasilievsky estate was Shcherbatov. The Count was a participant in the battle of Borodino, major general of the cavalry, a worthy son of the Fatherland. Later, the estate passed to his son.

Travelers Shcherbatovy

Alexey Grigorievich Scherbatov was a participant in the Russo-Turkish War, a knight of many orders. In 1879, he married Olga Stroganov. Their contemporaries called their marriage the kindred of souls. Olga was a miniature and fragile, but not a muslin lady. She adored thoroughbred horses, went on a dog hunt, was a beautiful rider and shot accurately. Together with her husband and brother, they visited many uninhabited places in Europe and Asia. They visited Ceylon, India, crossed the Arabian desert. She undoubtedly possessed the talent not only to take part in adventures, but also to paint them colorfully - her pen owns several books devoted to travels in which she took direct part.

Scherbatov in the cinema

The famous surname could not be ignored by writers and filmmakers. Several years ago the name Shcherbatov was seen in the cinema. The Count became the hero of the television series, which was enjoyed by all Russian-speaking viewers. The cinema returned to life an old manor in the village. Vasilievsky, giving her a pristine charm. The prototype of the main character was the real Count Mikhail Mikhailovich Shcherbatov, who left a notable mark in Russian science. His pen belonged to works in the field of philosophy, history and journalism. Based on the real biography of this man, the writers came up with a beautiful legend.

Count Shcherbatov and his wife Lilia

The biography of the heroes was thought through to the smallest detail. M.M. Shcherbatov scriptwriters made a scientist who developed a cure for viral and infectious diseases. Thanks to the fatal accident, his wife contracted one of the deadly diseases and died suddenly. Count Shcherbatov did not suffer a separation from his beloved and soon laid his hands on himself. The legend was so believable that the characters of the movie history came to life. Unfortunately, the beautiful legend has no historical basis. Count Shcherbatov and his wife Lilia, whose photos users are searching in vain for the Internet, turned out to be just a beautiful fiction. His wife Lily never existed - the real wife of Scherbatova was Princess Natalia Ivanovna, who was a distant relative of her husband. In this marriage two sons and four daughters were born.

The history of the Shcherbatovs deserves to return to it again and again - after all, out of the labors and accomplishments of the great people, our true story develops, which is worth studying both for contemporaries and for our descendants.
