Faroe Islands - rest on the edge of the world

If you want to feel the purest and clearest air that can fill every cell of your body with unique energy, if you like a soothing and peaceful silence, then it is possible to get it by spending a vacation on the Faroe Islands in Denmark. This is one of the most beautiful places in the North Atlantic. The attraction of the local landscape lies in the vastness of the ocean, in the surrounding silence, which is disturbed only by the scream of flying birds.

The islands are a rather deserted archipelago, located between Iceland and Scotland. Despite the fact that their location is attributed to the term "edge of the world", it can be easily reached here, for example, by plane from Britain or Scandinavia.

The main port and capital of the islands is the city of Torshavn, which occupies the territory in the southeastern part of Strima Island. This is the largest settlement in these places. The Faroe Islands are 18 islands, one of which is uninhabited. From them to Iceland - 450 kilometers, and the distance to Norway is 675 kilometers. The population of the island is small, about 50,000 people, of which 20,000 live in the capital. There are also remote islands, whose population does not exceed a hundred people. Residents are very friendly to all guests of the islands.

Those who decided to visit the Faroe Islands, you need to know that there is a temperate climate. This makes the winter not very cold, and the summer - not very hot. It is not recommended to go on vacation from September to January, because during this period the islands are raining and there is a thick fog. The temperature of sea water almost always remains unchanged and is plus ten degrees Celsius. This factor has a very favorable effect on the number of fish. That's why among vacationers the majority of those who like fishing. Here is an excellent place for catching cod, halibut, salmon and eel. The ideal place for fishing is Lake Pollur, located on the island of Streimoy. No less popular is the island of Nolsoy, where besides catching cod, you can see a large seal rookery.

However, the Faroe Islands are not just fishing. Here you can make and rest, which includes hiking, many-day hikes, visits to bird habitats and much more.

In the winter, water on the islands is very transparent, which makes them popular among divers. During this period, you can go down to the sunken ships, and also clearly observe the underwater swimming of seals.

Among other recreational activities, it is possible to make excursions with the help of which to study the culture and way of life of the local population. In addition, various festivals are held on the islands, during which you can hear traditional Faroese songs, see round dances, colorful processions and all sorts of competitions. In short, here you can spend a wonderful vacation. The Faroe Islands, in addition, have their own sights.

On the island of Kalsoy is a large number of different interesting caves. It is considered the largest mountainous island of the archipelago. Surprisingly beautiful place is the Rock of Tretconconfigur, which in translation means "finger of a troll woman". Such picturesque lakes as Heimara-Halsavati and Noroara-Khalsavati are located on Sandoy Island. And on the island of Vagar there is a mountain range Slave. Here you will see a unique spectacle - the waters of the high mountain lake flow through the stone fence and fall into the ocean from a height of thirty meters.

In addition to natural attractions, the Faroe Islands offer architectural monuments, including the Monastery of Munkastovan, located in the city of Torshavn. On all sides it is surrounded by a high stone wall. In this city there is a historical museum, which will be interesting for every tourist. There is also a unique building with a peat roof. On summer evenings, various events for tourists are held there. In this building there is also a city library.
