Extractor in the garage with your own hands

Ventilation refers to an important system in the garage. From its work and functionality, the integrity of the vehicle and the microclimate as a whole largely depends.

The right hood in the garage is necessary for supplying fresh air, which is so necessary for the owner and his car. This type of communication is also responsible for the release of volatile toxic substances and excess moisture.

Why is the hood in the garage?

Many owners of garages are sure that non-residential premises in ventilation do not need. To refute this erroneous opinion will help the characteristic consequences caused by the absence of this system:

  1. Dampness, appearing in the garage, has a destructive effect on the metal parts of the body, the electrician, the electronic devices of the car. In addition to causing damage to the car, excess moisture accelerates the process of spoilage and decay of food reserves, causes fungi on the walls, wooden supports and other structural elements of the room, which are made of wood and metal.
  2. The formation of a toxic environment adversely affects the health of the owner. If the hood is not made in the garage, an unfavorable atmosphere will be formed, causing a painful condition, headaches, poisoning. Even if the evaporation from incomplete combustion of gasoline, gas, diesel, the owner of the garage is not initially felt, then the accumulated toxins will inevitably make themselves felt.

The design of a simple or complex ventilation system avoids many negative consequences. Moreover, the outbuildings, according to the requirements declared in the SNiPe on 21.02.99, should be equipped with this communication system on a par with housing.

How to properly draw the hood in the garage?

Correctly executed ventilation system is a pledge of long service life of auto.

If the hood in the garage will be arranged correctly, in accordance with all norms and rules of the SNiPa, then 180 l and more fresh air will enter the premises daily.

In order to make ventilation in the garage, you should:

  • To know the number of cars that will be regularly located in this room;
  • Make a calculation of the overall dimensions of the garage;
  • Determine the most comfortable location of the ventilation system;
  • Choose the right material for the equipment of the hood;
  • Install, if required by the plan-scheme, additional equipment.

The hood in the garage is equipped and in two-storey, and in standard one-story buildings. The ventilation must also be arranged in the garage cellar, because in an isolated cellar room there is not enough air circulation to eliminate odor and dampness.

Types of ventilation

There are several ways to provide the car with a "breath of fresh air":

  1. A natural ventilation system built on the principle of the emergence of a flow of air without coercion by means of a temperature difference between the inner room and the street.
  2. Forced (combined) scheme of ventilation of the garage, working on the principle of forced drawing from the room of exhaust air and its natural influx from the street.
  3. Mechanical ventilation, in which special devices (a module, a monoblock) are responsible for the air exchange in the garage, which draw in fresh air and are released outwardly contaminated forcibly.
  4. Exhaust ventilation, which uses a vent for ventilation. The downside of such a system is that there is no air intake, because air moves only in one direction.
  5. Supply and exhaust ventilation.

How to draw a hood in the garage? Everything depends, as a rule, on the financial capabilities of the owner. Ideal in all respects, the mechanical system will cost the car owner $ 1200 and even more. And the installation of expensive equipment will be carried out by a specialist. If an extract is made for the garage with your own hands, then you should choose a natural or forced ventilation system. All types of ventilation systems are equipped with one or two channels.

Ways of ventilation in the garage

It should not only be vented directly to the garage itself, but also to the additional rooms adjacent to it:

  1. The ventilation of the cellar in the garage must be done in an exhausted manner so that the products stored in it do not deteriorate. How to properly draw the hood in the garage cellar, described below.
  2. In the underground garage ventilation must be carried out in combination or mechanically. Otherwise, the whole room can become covered with fungus and mold.
  3. In the vegetable pit of the garage it is best to equip the combined system.
  4. The hood in the paint garage should be mechanical with many additional devices. Thanks to the continuous flow of fresh air, the paint will dry much faster. In addition, properly made hood for the garage for painting improves the quality of painting, reduces the cost of replacing filters, saves electricity, and increases the speed of forced drying.
  5. In the observation pit of the garage, the ventilation is arranged in a natural way. Its action is due to the through flow of air.
  6. In the metal garage, the hood is still being built during its construction. It is important that the ventilated opening has a volume such that the cold air does not allow the room to heat up.
  7. In a brick garage, an ideal hood is a combined type.

To form a hole for the ventilation system, metal and asbestos pipes are used. The diameter is chosen in accordance with the volume of the air masses to be replaced.

Natural ventilation

This is the most affordable and inexpensive way to organize air exchange in the garage. Already at the stage of construction of the building box, it is necessary to provide in the walls two openings for such a ventilation scheme:

  1. Fresh air inlet for fresh air, located at the floor (at least 10 cm from it). The outlet pipe, passing through it, is raised above the ground even higher (about 30 cm). At the end of the grid and tapered roof.
  2. An exhaust hole located near the ceiling (lower by 10 cm), to drain the polluted air. The outlet pipe is raised 50 cm above the roof and also protected from rain and insects with a mesh and a cap.

Disadvantages of the natural ventilation system

This system has a number of significant drawbacks:

  1. The effect of natural ventilation in the summer is practically reduced to zero. This is due to the fact that the temperature outside the garage is higher.
  2. Differences in pressure inside the building will create a draft that is undesirable for people who spend a lot of time caring for their cars.
  3. Due to the small size of the garage, the difference in temperature and pressure is not always sufficient for good circulation.
  4. It is difficult to predict the direction of the wind, therefore the air flow does not always come to the inlet.
  5. The condition of the outlets and the supply devices must be constant care: in the summer, clean from dirt, accumulated dust and burning, in winter from the ice that has grown due to the temperature drop.

Given the listed shortcomings, people who do not want to depend on gifts from nature, it is better to invest more of their money and make more expensive, but constantly functioning ventilation in the garage.

Combined ventilation

In its structure, this system is similar to natural extraction. In the garage there are 2 holes: for the influx of fresh air (at the floor) and for removing the spent (near the ceiling). But the difference is that there is no dependence on finding holes. They can be located on the same wall and even on one level, only they can not be placed against each other, otherwise the air circuit will close and air will not enter the room.

The difference of such a system is in the installation in the output channels of electric fans. Air exchange takes place according to the pressure build-up principle: already exhausted air is forcibly removed from the garage, and fresh air enters the vacant space.

The combined ventilation system can be used all year round, with the exhaust fan inexpensive and does not consume much energy (100 W).

Forced exhaust ventilation in garages and cellars

By the ratio of price / quality is the most optimal option. Only in this way can create effective ventilation of the basement in the garage and good air circulation in the inspection pit. In addition, this is the only option for underground garages.

Conclusion

The device of an extract in a garage is an obligatory requirement, which should not be neglected. It is possible to equip budgetary natural ventilation or, if possible, to install an expensive but effective mechanical system. Garage owners can also choose a combined method, representing something between the appliances of a natural type and a mechanical installation. On what the owner of the garage and car will choose, depends on its financial capabilities and requirements.
